Rangers backed to pursue Luke Graham transfer after visible transformation

Rangers have been told to pursue Dundee star Luke Graham amid an impressive season for the Scottish Premiership side.

The centre-back came up through the ranks at Dundee but before making his first-team debut there, he cut his teeth in the lower leagues.

Loans at Lochee United, Albion Rovers, Montrose and Falkirk followed between 2021-25, before enjoying a breakout season with Dundee this term.

His form has attracted the attention of Rangers, who are seeking a new centre-back as Derek Cornelius is expected to leave the club this summer. If he departed, that would leave the Ibrox outfit with centre-backs John Souttar, Emmanuel Fernandez, and Nasser Djiga – who is on loan from Wolves.

Now, former Gers star Alex Rae has called on Rangers to make a move for Graham, who has bulked up in recent times.

Rangers should sign ‘ripped’ Luke Graham

Despite Dundee losing 2-1 to Celtic on Sunday, 22-year-old Graham – who previously was linked with Arsenal and had trials at Sheffield United – was praised for his performance for Steven Pressley’s side.

And according to Rae, Rangers should do all they can to secure his signature over the summer. He added that the 6ft 4in Graham “bullied” the opposition and that Rangers, Celtic or Hearts would be lucky to have him.

He said on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: “I think it has already been mentioned; it has been reported in the papers a bit.

“The boy Graham was excellent at the weekend [in the loss to Celtic] – very aggressive, naturally left-sided as well, which gives you that balance.

“And obviously, when you are looking at your European quota of Scottish homegrown talents, then that would be one ticking the box. So, I would imagine that he would be on the radar.

“I have [been impressed], and it is interesting because you get to talk with people within the game, people who have actually worked with him and I think the penny has dropped for him as well in terms of ways he goes about things.

“I don’t mean any disrespect. I don’t know enough about the boy. I think he has buckled down, he has applied himself better and he is actually benefiting from that. Because I think he looks chiselled now, he looks as if he has been ripped. And he is actually bullying people.

“He has still got to learn his trade because he is so young, and is playing and developing. For me, that would be one that Rangers or Celtic or for that matter, Hearts will tick the boxes for any one of the three.”

The Scotland Under-21 international, who won the Scottish Championship with Falkirk last season and was Montrose’s Young Player of the Year in 2023-24, appears to have a bright future.

But he will have a big decision to make over what the best course of action is for his future. Sometimes, a big move too soon can set a player back. Conversely, it can be the making of some people. Either way, an intriguing summer lies ahead.

What has Steven Pressley said about possible Graham exit?

Dundee boss Pressley conceded the Scottish side may lose Graham this summer, amid transfer links with Rangers and Sheffield United.

Pressley said on Thursday: “He’s been outstanding for us, he really has. He’s been a real standout. He’s grown week after week.

“Our biggest problem, it’s obvious, is trying to hold on to him or trying to replace him. That’s going to be the hardest part of the summer. It may be the case that we just have to enjoy him while he’s here.

“I think that it’s the nature of the way football works that we’re not the only selling club. There’s maybe only one or two clubs in the world that aren’t selling clubs. We have to accept that.

“But as the club have shown over the January window that Luke Graham won’t be leaving unless we get the fee that we think is acceptable and reflects his value. And that seems to grow by the game.”

While his improvement will be music to Rangers’ ears, they will face extra competition for his signature. Graham has earned his stripes to get to this point and Dundee will, naturally, want to keep him.

But money talks for a club such as Dundee. If a big offer comes in, they may not be able to refuse it.
