Barry Ferguson shares ‘daft’ Andreas Skov Olsen theory as Rangers urged to pay £7m

Barry Ferguson has backed Andreas Skov Olsen to be a success at Rangers despite his poor start at Ibrox.

Skov Olsen was signed on an initial loan deal in the winter window, with Danny Rohl bolstering his squad with hopes of pushing for the Scottish Premiership.

The German has certainly steered the Bears in that direction, as the G51 outfit remains just one point behind Hearts.

The Danish international arrived at Ibrox with big expectations, having starred in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg.

However, as Rangers signed Skov Olsen on loan, the Dane has not had much impact on the Gers’ rise towards the top of the table, with questions raised as to whether a permanent move should be sanctioned.

Why Barry Ferguson wants Rangers to sign Andreas Skov Olsen permanently

Ferguson believes that Skov Olsen’s career history proves there is still a quality player in there and has urged the Ibrox outfit to keep him.

The former Rangers star has admitted he is one of the few that feels the £7million buy option should be activated.

Speaking from personal experience via the Daily Record, the former Gers midfielder thinks Skov Olsen just needs time to settle in.

Ferguson stated: “When I first went down to England, it actually took me some time to adjust and to get a feel for the whole new environment. It might sound daft, but it’s true.”

Additionally, he has asked Rangers fans to remember how slow life started for Vaclav Cerny in Scotland and how he eventually turned things around.

Amid Rangers’ injuries to both Ryan Naderi and Tuur Rommens, Ferguson insists he would not be surprised if Skov Olsen finally shows his quality in the final six games.

Rangers are at a crossroads when it comes to Skov Olsen, and only the player himself can confirm his future with strong performances.

How does Skov Olsen compare with Vaclav Cerny at this point?

If Skov Olsen can turn his form around and fire Rangers to the Scottish Premiership, the Glasgow outfit would have no choice but to activate his buy option.

So far, while life has been slow, the 26-year-old does have four goal contributions in eight Scottish league appearances.

With Ferguson comparing the winger to Cerny, the Czech only had one more involvement in his opening eight league games for the Govan-based club.

So, Rangers’ former captain may have a point, and perhaps it is too early to write Skov Olsen off. However, the 40-cap Danish star must quickly start showing his qualities.

Or else, it would make more sense for the Gers to cut their losses and search for better wide options in the summer window.
