Liam Kelly heads for Rangers exit door as Pierce Charles tops Ibrox shortlist

Liam Kelly doesn’t seem to have a future at Rangers, who have set their sights on Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Scotland international has been a bit-part player under Danny Rohl, with Jack Butland the undisputed number one this season.

According to the Daily Record, Charles is among four players high on the Glaswegian outfit’s shortlist for the summer.

The news outlet reports on 9 April that Dundee centre-back Luke Graham, Sheffield United forward Tyrese Campbell and Motherwell winger Elijah Just are also wanted by the Light Blues.

Kelly’s contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the season and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave if the Govan side are planning to sign a new shot-stopper.

🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.

Danny Rohl to keep Jack Butland on his toes at Rangers

Rohl has had his eyes on Charles at the Gers since the winter transfer window and he could finally be getting his wish ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Butland has put in some brilliant performances for the Light Blues this season, pulling off exceptional saves to secure crucial points in a tight title race.

Under Barry Ferguson, the Englishman lost his place to Kelly in between the sticks, but he’s done well to bounce back since.

There’s no denying that the 33-year-old has been one of the Glaswegian outfit’s best players under the German manager, but he will have one year left on his deal at the end of the season.

Charles was given his big break at Sheffield Wednesday by Rohl and the German manager may feel he could be the future number one at Ibrox.

Liam Kelly rumours may not be true at Ibrox

Barry Ferguson recently suggested that Kelly had signed a one-year contract extension with Rangers, but there has been no official confirmation.

It looks like the Scottish goalkeeper’s time in G51 may be coming to an end and he could be a free agent soon.

The 30-year-old has been a decent backup at Ibrox, but it would arguably be best for him to find pastures new in the coming months.

Rohl is building something special at the Glaswegian outfit and it doesn’t look like Kelly is trusted to play a major role in it.
