Charlie Mulgrew makes ‘controversial’ prediction for Rangers, Celtic, Hearts title race
Charlie Mulgrew has made a “controversial” prediction involving Rangers, Celtic and Hearts ahead of final weeks of the Scottish Premiership season.
Heading into the split, the title rivals are locked together at the top of the standings, with all three sides carrying the aim of lifting the title next month.
Danny Rohl’s Rangers were able to cut the gap at the weekend, with a 4-2 win against Dundee United, followed up by a 2-2 draw for Hearts against Livingston.
With the split coming after the upcoming Falkirk clash, former Celtic defender Mulgrew has given his thoughts on who will be the happiest come May.

Rangers fans won’t be pleased as Charlie Mulgrew makes title prediction
After a dismal start to the season under Russell Martin, Rangers have turned things around superbly under Rohl.
Sitting firmly in the title picture, the Gers know that a win against Falkirk is in order to set Rohl’s side up perfectly for the split, when Rangers face both Hearts and Celtic in the space of six days next month.
| Date | Time | Fixture | TV |
| Sunday 26 April | 15:00 | Motherwell (H) | – |
| Monday 4 May | 17:30 | Hearts (A) | Sky Sports |
| Sunday 10 May | 12:00 | Celtic (A) | Sky Sports |
| Wednesday 13 May | 20:00 | Hibernian (H) | – |
| Saturday 16 May | 12:30 | Falkirk (A) | – |
Despite Rangers being the form team at the moment, with eight goals in two matches either side of the international break, Mulgrew does not believe that they have what it takes to lift the title.
“I think Celtic, I don’t think they’ll win it,” said the former Scotland defender on The Breakdown Podcast.
Looking at the current title picture, Mulgrew described it as “Hearts’ title to lose”, before he was asked whether Rangers would finish third, prompting a simple “yes”.
Kevin Thomson was quick to respond, saying “that’s controversial”, after the bold prediction.
As of now, Rohl’s side sit just a point behind leaders Hearts, while the added goals in recent weeks have seen the goal difference fly through the roof for the Govan outfit.
Rangers can shift entire landscape of post-split fixtures
The coming weekend will play a deciding factor in just who wins the title come May.
Rangers travel to Falkirk on Sunday, knowing that they have the chance to react to the results of both Hearts and Celtic from the day prior.

If they were to leapfrog the league leaders, the entire landscape of the post-split fixtures could be altered.
For the first time this season, Derek McInnes’ Hearts side would no longer be in the ascendancy – something that would be a huge blow to their confidence at such a crucial point in the season.
With a short break between this weekend’s fixtures and the return to action, Rangers could give Hearts a lot to think about over the coming weeks as they continue to pile on the pressure at the top.
