Nasser Djiga contract situation: Expiry date, Wolves exit stance, and can Rangers sign him
Nasser Djiga has turned around his form at Rangers, raising questions about the chances of a permanent move.
The Burkina Faso centre-back has formed a brilliant partnership with Emmanuel Fernandez since he returned from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Djiga is on loan with Danny Rohl‘s side, which means he is currently scheduled to return to Wolves at the end of the campaign.
Whether they can strike a deal for him to come back to Govan with the Premier League side remains to be seen.
The 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh will back Rohl to transform his Rangers squad when the market reopens, and signing the defender would be a sensible option.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
What is Djiga’s contract situation with Wolves?
Djiga is set to leave Rangers in the summer, which will leave a gaping hole in their squad depth in the backline.
The Old Gold signed him on deadline day of the winter transfer window in 2025, and he signed a five-year contract.

His contract with the English clubs expires on 30 June 2030, so there is little chance of a cut-price deal for the 23-year-old.
What is Wolves’ stance on Rangers’ move for Djiga?
There is conflicting information surrounding Wolves’ stance on a potential exit for the talented defender.
Reports in March suggested that he could be available for a fee of around £8million, with a buy option included in his loan spell in G51.
| Djiga’s stats for Rangers this season | Scottish Premiership |
| Matches | 19 |
| Interceptions | 1.6 |
| Tackles per game | 1.5 |
| Clearances per game | 4.6 |
| Ball recoveries per game | 4 |
| Ground duels won | 69% |
| Aerial duels won | 59% |
However, the Molineux club’s impending relegation to the Championship is set to leave question marks over the chances of a deal, according to recent updates, as they may want to use him in the second tier.
That suggests that there is no release clause included in the loan, despite the previous implication that there was one.
Can Rangers sign Djiga?
It seems like the Gers will have to wait to learn the Midlands side’s true demands.
The Scotsman journalist Graham Falk believes they will not want to pay what they will ask for if it is similar to the fee that they paid for him in the first place.
Speaking to Express and Star on 6 April, he said: “I can’t see Rangers splashing the cash that it would take to bring him to Ibrox permanently.
“Wolves paid £10 million and, while he might grow into that fee, he isn’t there yet, and I can’t see Rangers opting to bring him at even half that cost.”
That suggests that there is little chance that the Light Blues will be able to sign him, despite the relatively cheap fee.
