Tuur Rommens can be as good as Rangers icon Arthur Numan in Barry Ferguson verdict

Tuur Rommens has the potential to be up there as one of the best Rangers full-backs alongside Arthur Numan.

It’s not me saying that; Barry Ferguson, who played with the Netherlands international, sees traits of the Dutchman in the former Westerlo defender.

Numan won three league titles, four Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups during his time at Ibrox.

The Belgium Under-21 international has been an instant hit at the Light Blues after arriving in the winter transfer window and can be one of the key players to push Danny Rohl’s team to William Hill Premiership glory in the current campaign.

Rommens has shown immense potential at Ibrox despite only being at the Glaswegian outfit for a few months and big things are certainly being expected of him.

The defender has also been resolute, winning two ground duels per game and 71 per cent of his aerial duels.

There’s still a long way for Rommens to go before being compared to someone like Numan, but the initial signs have looked encouraging.

Speaking on Five Stars VIP on 1 April, Ferguson said, “I don’t want to class him against somebody but he reminds me of a player I played with and I think he’s got the potential to be up there with him. He’s similar to Arthur Numan. I see traits of him. Arthur was unbelievable. He was one of the best I ever played with and I see traits of Arthur in Rommens, I really do.”

Andrew Cavenagh needs Tuur Rommens transfer repeat at Ibrox

James Tavernier’s future at Rangers remains uncertain, with the captain’s contract expiring at the end of the season, and it’s unclear whether he will be handed a new one.

Max Aarons was arguably brought in as a potential successor for the 34-year-old, but the Bournemouth loanee has failed to live up to expectations.

Dujon Sterling puts in decent performances whenever he plays, but the Englishman’s persistent fitness issues make him unreliable.

Andrew Cavenagh and the recruitment team should look for a quality right-back, just like they have found a long-term solution for the left side of defence.
