Rangers have new contract priority as Lewis Stewart catches eye of Premier League clubs
Rangers should act quickly to sort out a new contract for Lewis Stewart, as he is attracting interest from the Premier League.
The 18-year-old winger is currently on loan with Alloa Athletic in Scottish League One, but his future at Ibrox is uncertain.
He has just months left on his deal and could walk away in the summer if fresh terms to the three-year professional deal that he signed in 2023 are not agreed upon shortly.
A report from the Daily Record on 2 April claimed that his performances for Alloa have led to attention from the English top-flight and rival Scottish Premiership teams.
Rangers’ new priority should be sorting out a new contract for the youngster, before he can be poached away after catching preying eyes.

Why Rangers need to extend Stewart’s deal
Rangers have sorted the future of the likes of Ashton Scally and Josh Gentles recently, so they are clearly trying to stop their best talents from being nabbed by big clubs.
Given Stewart’s showings at the Indodrill Stadium this season, he deserves a new deal to see how good he can become in Govan.
He has played 21 times in the league for the Wasps, with three goals and three assists in 1,573 minutes of football.

The Gers could regret losing him, especially if he ends up at a rival Scottish side, rather than in the English game.
Who is Lewis Stewart?
Stewart joined the Gers academy at the age of nine, and has continued to progress through the youth ranks at Auchenhowie.
He has been capped six times by the Scottish Under-19 national team, in matches against Kazakhstan, UAE, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and England.

| 12 November 2025 | Latvia (A) | 2-2 |

He trained with the senior side ahead of the Europa League clash with Ferencvaros in December, he was part of the matchday squad for the game against Ludogorets in January and travelled with the squad for the Porto clash at the end of that month.
He is an attacker who can operate on either wing, which could make him a valuable asset for Danny Rohl in the future, if he sticks around.
The 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh need to ensure that the Light Blues’ most talented youngsters stay put, rather than being tempted by the riches of the Premier League.
There needs to be a pathway to the first-team, so they are not willing to swap Govan for south of the border.
