Rabbi Matondo: Ex-Rangers forward unlucky at Ibrox as SK Brann transfer confirmed
Rabbi Matondo was unlucky with his injuries at Rangers after completing a transfer to SK Brann.
Former Gers defender Craig Moore believes the forward’s persistent fitness issues at Ibrox hindered his prospects in Govan.
The Australian feels the Wales international showed glimpses of his talent in G51 but was never really able to get going.
Matondo has joined Brann on a free transfer and will undoubtedly be hoping to kickstart his career in Norway.
Andrew Cavenagh’s transfer ambition at Ibrox is clear, but the Glaswegian outfit’s chairman needs to ensure he effectively offloads the deadwood in the coming months.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Danny Rohl right to snub Rabbi Matondo at Rangers after what’s happened
Danny Rohl has some quality talent at his disposal out wide at the Gers and it wouldn’t have made sense to give Matondo too many opportunities.
While the Welsh attacker came off the bench in the earlier rounds of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup, the likes of Mikey Moore, Djeidi Gassama, Oliver Antman, Nedim Bajrami and Andreas Skov Olsen were ahead of him in the pecking order.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| William Hill Premiership | 41 | 7 | 9 |
The 25-year-old’s contract at Ibrox was set to expire at the end of the season, but he made the right choice by ending it prematurely after struggling for game time under the German manager.
Matondo will surely go down as another one of the previous regime’s transfer failures at the Glaswegian outfit, with the likes of Jose Cifuentes and Oscar Cortes still around.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 1 April, Moore said, “Unfortunately, injuries and, therefore, regular football for Matondo at Rangers didn’t really happen. He showed some glimpses, some real quality at times, but again, without being too disrespectful to the player, you need to have a little bit of luck staying fit, staying healthy. He didn’t really get in that situation at the club.”
Next Ibrox exit clear after what Danny Rohl does
Bojan Miovski will surely look to leave Rangers in the summer after failing to secure a place in the German manager’s starting lineup.

The North Macedonia international’s struggles at the Gers have also affected his international opportunities, something he won’t be happy about.
With Youssef Chermiti and Ryan Naderi the preferred strike partnership at the Light Blues, the former Girona ace’s exit feels inevitable.
Rohl has arguably made it easy for fans in G51 to predict the next exit from the Glaswegian outfit and Miovski certainly fits the bill.
