Emmanuel Fernandez repeats Rangers heroics on dream first Nigeria start
Emmanuel Fernandez scored on his first Nigeria start on a night to remember for the Rangers ace.
Fernandez was born in London but switched his allegiance to the Super Eagles in March. He then made his first two appearances for the country during the international break.
His maiden bow came during a friendly victory against Iran on March 27, before the 24-year-old centre-back was awarded his full debut against Jordan on Tuesday.
The appearance capped off a superb purple patch for the Gers sensation, who has played a crucial role in resurrecting the Scottish Premiership title charge at Ibrox.
Danny Rohl will no doubt be watching Fernandez’s progress ahead of Rangers’ return to top-flight action against Dundee United, and he will have been delighted with what he saw.

How did Emmanuel Fernandez play for Nigeria?
Nigeria conceded the first goal before equalising through Moses Simon, and Fernandez then demonstrated his clinical nature by putting the Super Eagles ahead.
The defender has been a real fox in the box for the Light Blues this season, scoring six goals in all competitions, and he repeated his heroics on his very first international start.

On 40 minutes, Bright Osayi-Samuel delivered a floated cross toward the back post, where Fernandez coolly took the ball down before firing low into the far corner.
It was the exact composure he has showcased for his club several times already since he arrived from Peterborough in a £3million deal back in July 2025.
Fernandez played the full 90 minutes for Nigeria, with the friendly ultimately finishing 2-2.
Fernandez is Rangers’ not-so-secret weapon
Rangers have Fernandez to thank for their late title push, and he has become their not-so-secret weapon as they look to usurp Hearts at the top of the Premiership table.
Standing at a towering 6ft 4, the centre-half is a colossus. He can score with his head and both feet, and is still finding ways to score despite opponents becoming savvier.
Indeed, Fernandez is now usually doubled up on for set-pieces, but Gers’ hard work on dead-ball situations is paying off and still releasing him into promising positions.
Clearly, his useful instincts have also followed him on international duty.
