Rangers could send Luke Graham back to Dundee as Andrew Cavenagh personally involved

Rangers are advancing with a move for Dundee centre-back Luke Graham ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Keith Jackson has revealed that the Gers are “quite far down the line” in their approach to sign the defender in the summer, having identified him as a target several weeks back.

The Daily Record journalist believes Andrew Cavenagh is playing a prominent role regarding the Light Blues’ transfer plans for the 2026-27 campaign.

Jackson expects the Glaswegian outfit to make a bid, with Dan Purdy scouting Graham at Scotland’s Under-21 game recently, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get loaned back to Dens Park for another season.

Danny Rohl must be backed by Cavenagh after making impressive progress with the Govan side and it looks like they already have plans in place to reinforce the squad.

Emmanuel Fernandez and Nasser Djiga have formed a resolute partnership at the Gers in recent weeks.

The two young centre-backs have kept John Souttar out of the starting lineup, which many wouldn’t have expected at the start of the campaign.

After a £3million move to the Light Blues last summer, many among the Ibrox faithful were left underwhelmed by the former Peterborough United defender’s initial performances.

The Wolves loanee was also seen as a disaster, but many supporters would now like to see the Burkina Faso international stay at the Glaswegian outfit, although he will return down south this summer.

Derek Cornelius’ loan deal at the Govan side will also expire in the coming months, leaving Rohl with a need to sign someone like Graham.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 29 March, Jackson said, “I think they’re quite far down the line with Graham. I think he’s been identified for a number of weeks now. Interestingly, I believe that Cavenagh is quite central to some of the discussions.

“You would have expected him to delegate and let the minions handle that stuff but I think he has taken personal interest in what the recruitment department are looking at this summer. I expect them to put a bid in for him. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did a deal with Dundee to buy him and then loan him back next season so he can get another year of Premiership experience.”

Danny Rohl must focus on one area in summer transfer window

James Tavernier’s contract at Rangers expires at the end of the season and he’s been their most creative outlet.

Max Aarons will also go back to Bournemouth, while Jayden Meghoma’s loan from Brentford will also expire.

It feels like Rohl will have to prioritise defensive additions to his team in the summer, considering the number of uncertain futures at Ibrox.

Fans in G51 have the end of the campaign to look forward to and will then see whether Cavenagh lives up to his promise to further invest in the Govan side.
