Graeme Souness comments prove ‘mad’ Rangers reality Danny Rohl faces after sack claims

Graeme Souness understands the pressure that the Rangers job brings, and Danny Rohl has faced the full effect of it already this season.

The German head coach has had a turbulent time at Gers in terms of acceptance from chunks of the Gers fanbase this season.

However, it’s been nothing but upward trends since he arrived in Glasgow a month after Russell Martin got sacked, but that still hasn’t been enough to convince everyone he is the right man in the hot seat.

Andrew Cavenagh has full trust in the former Sheffield Wednesday boss, and is expected to back him once more in the summer window, regardless of how this campaign ends.

Rangers have a chance of winning something this season, but Rohl still faces outside pressure that Souness knows all about.

Graeme Souness’ Rangers admission highlights current Danny Rohl issue

There have been calls for Rangers to sack Rohl already, and some have suggested that he should go if no silverware returns to Ibrox at the end of the season.

The 49ers have openly admitted that they are happy with the young head coach in charge, but still want to see the Bears lift the Scottish Premiership title in May.

Former Gers boss Souness knows the Ibrox expectation when you are in the hot seat, but as seen in his recent admission, Rohl has been big enough to stand up and face criticism, while showing signs of resilience at such a young age.

Souness said, as quoted by the Daily Record on Saturday: “As a manager, I found an enormous responsibility towards the players, the supporters and the club.

“I still have a laugh to myself and wonder how brave and mad I was to take the Rangers job at 33-years-old. I had been at big football clubs but nothing as large as Glasgow Rangers in terms of the interest in the club that the supporters show.”

With not long left in the campaign, Gers are within touching distance of Hearts, and Rohl deserves more credit for what he has done.

Unfortunately, the reality for him is that whatever he does from now until the end of the season, it might not be enough to win everyone over.

This side of Rohl will take Rangers far; mark my words

Understandably, people want to see the Bears win titles when they then get themselves in a position to do so, but perspective is needed.

The whole process of this season has been transitional, with multiple exits behind the scenes going on, with the 49ers now just about settling in.

Rohl has dealt with the madness in such a positive manner, but when things don’t go the way of Rangers, he stands up and takes accountability, unlike some before him.

Following the loss to SK Brann at the start of his tenure, Rohl apologised to Gers fans for the loss. The Rangers boss said: “(At the end) I first apologised (to the fans) for this defeat and the performance.

“This club has a lot of passionate fans, and they deserve this. It was very important for me to show that I understand them.”

He knows what it means to be here – Glory will come.
