Danny Rohl has it all wrong with Ryan Naderi at Rangers, he must get him closer to goal

Danny Rohl would have been hoping for more goalscoring impact from winter arrival Ryan Naderi at Rangers, but the German manager is not blameless for his striker’s lack of goals.

Naderi has yet to hit the net against Scottish Premiership opposition, with his only goals for the Gers coming against Queen’s Park.

Questions were raised about the forward’s ability to adapt to top-flight football after spending much of his career in the lower ends of German football.

However, Naderi has shown plenty of signs he could be a quality addition for the Bears.

When it comes to his goalscoring prowess, Rohl may have some blame to take in Naderi’s early matches for Rangers.

How Danny Rohl is not playing to Ryan Naderi’s strengths at Rangers

The international break could give Rangers manager Rohl an excellent time to seek a solution for the Gers’ lack of goals.

However, he could find it by utilising Naderi more similarly to the role he played at his former club.

As per the image below of Naderi’s heatmap at Hansa Rostock (left) compared to him at Rangers (right) so far, the German is rarely picking up the ball in the central areas close to goal.

For a centre-forward, this makes it move more difficult for the 22-year-old to be platted for goalscoring.

When put in the right positions, Naderi has showcased he can be clinical. At Hansa Rostock he had a 22 per cent conversion rate this season.

Overall, if Rohl can get the ball to the forward closer to goal, then the Bears manager could find the solution to the G51 outfit’s goalscoring woes.

Rohl faces choice over his tactics, as he could adapt to Naderi or continue limiting him

The relationship between Youssouf Chermiti and Naderi has yet to be built, and it remains to be seen how they can complement each other.

But at Hansa Rostock, the latter did play his best football when set up in a two-striker formation.

Rohl has attempted to use that system since signing the 21-year-old, but early signs point towards the 36-year-old asking Naderi to drop deep.

If Rangers want to win the Scottish Premiership, Rohl must make a decision over how long he is going to persist with the current tactics at Ibrox.

Naderi could be a difference maker if given the chance and platform to be a goalscorer. As it stands, he is being asked to perform in a completely different role to that.
