Rangers could sign ‘real deal’ amid new Finn Geragusian transfer links

Rangers could be signing the next real deal after links to Sunderland youth forward Finn Geragusian, Keith Wyness believes.

Geragusian has been linked with a move to Ibrox, with his scholarship contract running out in the summer at the Stadium of Light.

Under FIFA rules, that scholarship status means that clubs outside of England, such as Rangers, could sign him for as little as £173,000.

Geragusian has recently been awarded his first senior call-up to the Armenian national side, and could follow that with a move to Ibrox.

Rangers to sign ‘real deal’ Geragusian as door opens

Wyness believes there will be question marks around the young winger if Sunderland allows him to leave, but someone like Mikey Moore is a great case study already at Ibrox.

The former Aberdeen, Everton and Aston Villa chief executive, exclusively told Ibrox News that Geragusian could be the real deal with the noise around him.

“Well, you’re right to struggle with his surname,” Wyness said. “I think he’s just been called up to the Armenian national team, so we’ll have to give him a nod to Armenia.

“Difficult, isn’t it? Mean, look, you young talent is now so sought after. He’s scored some goals in the under-18s. I think he’s made about 26 appearances with about 13 or 14 goals for Sunderland.

“You know, the question mark for me is always, Sunderland have been a pretty forward-thinking club right now. If they’ve got a talent like this, why would they let them go?

“You know, and why would you move from a Premier League club, which is going forward like Sunderland? So there’s a question mark there.

“Now, yes, I think an under-18.

“We’ve seen young players come through before. And hasn’t, Mikey Moore has done very well with Rangers, and that’s been a great part of his development this season.

“And I think this kid, if he goes to Rangers again, if he is the real deal and he seems to be, he’s got, say, an international call up already, and there’s a lot of noise around him.”

Where would Geragusian fit in at Rangers?

Geragusian is also wanted by Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, but the pathway is much better in Scotland, with access to European football too.

Youssef Chermiti, Ryan Naderi and Bojan Miovski have all succeeded at times, but more often than not, question marks have remained over all three.

The same can be said for Oliver Antman and Djeidi Gassama in wide areas.

That could open the door to opportunities for younger players to come in, especially those who can play across the front three, like Geragusian.

Findlay Curtis will no doubt be back in the senior Rangers squad next season too after his loan at Kilmarnock, so there will be competition for places.

Danny Rohl isn’t afraid to give opportunities to younger players who earn them, so that could be all the motivation that Geragusian needs to sign on the dotted line.
