Djeidi Gassama: Alan Hutton says Rangers star was ‘angry and upset’ at Ibrox in Aberdeen win
Alan Hutton has praised Rangers attacker Djeidi Gassama following the 4-1 win against Aberdeen at Ibrox on Saturday evening.
The winger came on in place of Mikey Moore in the 86th minute, with Danny Rohl’s side leading 3-1.
Alongside other attacking players at Rangers, goals have not exactly been flowing for the 22-year-old, with just two to his name in the Scottish Premiership this term.
But, former defender Hutton has expressed how lively Gassama was following his introduction.
Gassama made the move from Sheffield Wednesday last summer and will be looking to make a difference in the season’s final stages as the Gers chase their first title since 2021.

Alan Hutton discusses ‘angry’ Djeidi Gassama
Leading 3-1 heading into stoppage time, Rangers were looking to inflict further pain on Aberdeen, strengthening their goal difference in the process.
Despite scoring the joint-most goals in the division this term, Rohl’s side have gone without a consistent goalscorer for large parts of the season.
| Ranking | Player | Goals | Appearances |
| 1 | Youssef Chermiti | 9 | 23 |
| 2 | James Tavernier | 8 | 29 |
| 3 | Mikey Moore | 6 | 26 |
| 4 | Emmanuel Fernandez | 5 | 21 |
| 5 | Nicolas Raskin | 4 | 29 |
Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club, Hutton said: “The forward situation at this moment in time, it is a problem, it’s not quite clicking. It does at times, in big games, it can happen, but not enough.
“That does not just go for the starting players; it goes for the boys who come on. Gassama came on, and he had fire in his belly; for whatever reason, he was upset and angry about something, and he took it out on the game.”

Gassama has made 31 appearances in the league this term, after shining under Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday, but has scored just twice and registered three assists.
Though the fire in the belly mentioned by Hutton could prove huge heading into the season’s final months, when key moments matter the most.
Rangers need healthy competition as they prepare for title battle
While Moore leads the way in terms of goals for a Rangers wideman this term, Gassama has most certainly had his impact on the pitch.
As mentioned by Hutton, the potential issues in the final third are not just down to the guaranteed starters, but those coming off the bench too.
Gassama’s reaction to coming on late is completely healthy, and something that Rohl will need to make the most of as his side chases the title.

Competition is a positive for any manager, and in a time where Rangers are looking for that final boost to go on and leapfrog Hearts at the top, the extra motivation is there for players to go on and claim their place from the off.
Rohl needs every member of his squad fit and ready for the coming months, and the extra spark as players battle for places certainly won’t harm this.
