Danny Rohl would be foolish to risk Tuur Rommens vs Aberdeen after Rangers injury update

Danny Rohl has revealed that Tuur Rommens is not fully fit heading into Rangers‘ clash against Aberdeen this Saturday.

The Gers boss spoke to the media on Friday, confirming that Andreas Skov Olsen has been ill this week, while also admitting that Rommens and Mikey Moore have “small problems”.

Three points are obviously a must at Ibrox as a win before the international break would leave supporters in high hopes before a crucial run-in.

But perhaps even more importantly for Rommens, the break will give him around two weeks to recover from whatever issue he has.

Rangers have battled injuries all season, and the last thing they need is for their key players to potentially miss the rest of the season over one game.

Danny Rohl has Jayden Meghoma to use instead

The temptation for Rohl to play Rommens will be there, after the left-back scored the winner in Rangers’ important 1-0 victory over St. Mirren last time out in the league.

The Belgian has been a top performer at Ibrox since arriving from Westerlo in the winter window, and looks like he could keep his spot for years in light blue.

Rommens’ league stats, according to Sofascore

As highlighted by Sofascore, Rommens clearly offers the Bears an improved threat from the left-hand side of play, something they’ll need for their last few games of the campaign.

This is why Rohl should take no risks, and play Jayden Meghoma in his place insetad.

Meghoma has been an underrated summer signing, and understandably, has been shifted out of the side with the emergence of Rommens.

However, the on-loan Brentford man still has clear use that Rohl can rely on, if needed.

Why Rommens can be Rangers’ new Borna Barisic

Borna Barisic enjoyed six productive seasons at Ibrox, and cemented himself as a favourite among the Gers fans before he left in 2024.

The Croatian helped the Bears to multiple trophy-winning seasons, and almost led them to become European champions in 2022.

Barisic didn’t pull up any trees during his first season, registering three assists in 22 games. The following season was when the left-back took off, and Rangers will be hoping to see the same with Rommens.

They each have similar qualities, and Rommens could be the attacking output that is needed from a full-back, once James Tavernier moves on.
