Connor Barron: Danny Rohl must consider Rangers change after his last outing vs Aberdeen

Connor Barron’s return from injury may have come at an excellent time for Rangers as they face Aberdeen on Saturday.

The 23-year-old sustained a knee injury following the last time the Gers faced the Dons, and on that occasion, the midfielder was one of the best players on the pitch.

As Rangers travelled to face St Mirren over the past weekend, Barron was named in the squad for the first time since January and was handed 18 minutes off the bench.

Now, with the Scotsman back in contention, Danny Rohl must be considering whether or not to throw him back into the starting XI as Rangers play Aberdeen once more.

How did Connor Barron perform last time he played Aberdeen?

As stated, Barron’s last game for Rangers before his injury came against Aberdeen back in January.

No injury ever comes at the right time, but the Bears midfielder picked up his after one of his best performances for the Ibrox club.

As Rohl’s side confirmed a 2-0 win at Ibrox, it was Barron at the centre of the action for the Glasgow outfit against his former team.

It was the definition of an all-action performance by the 23-year-old, who provided the assists for both goals on the day.

Barron also made seven key passes, completed 75 per cent of his dribbles, and won seven out of his 12 contested ground duels.

The former Aberdeen man appeared to enjoy facing his previous employers, with just one misplaced pass out of 57 attempted, giving him a 98 per cent passing accuracy as per Sofascore.

With him available for selection again, Barron must surely be on the mind of Rohl when he is deciding his starting lineup.

Barron could now be Rangers’ secret weapon as they chase league title number 56.

Who could Connor Barron replace for Rangers?

As it stands, it seems hard to suggest that either Nicolas Raskin or Tochi Chukwuani should be dropped by Rohl, but a change of formation could instead be used.

As of late, the German manager has opted to use a two-striker formation, but as seen against St Mirren, it has not reaped the rewards as expected.

Rohl could revert to having a sole number nine, opening up a place for a third midfielder on his team.

In that game where Barron was exceptional, he formed a three-man midfield alongside Raskin and Mohamed Diomande.

It should not be out of the question for the Rangers manager to utilise a set-up that has previously worked against this weekend’s opposition.
