Rangers: Keith Jackson ‘disheartened’ after reviewing Thelo Aasgaard offside footage

Keith Jackson is unsure as to whether Thelo Aasgaard’s disallowed goal for Rangers against St Mirren was truly offside after looking back over the footage.

Rangers kept their Scottish Premiership title hopes up, but they certainly made hard work of it.

The Gers struggled to break down St Mirren for much of the game, with Tuur Rommen’s strike the only breakthrough.

Substitute Aasgaard had thought he sealed the win after getting onto the end of Mikey Moore’s pass across the box.

However, the Norwegian international was deemed to be offside by VAR, but even then, Jackson is not entirely convinced about the decision in St Mirren against Rangers.

Why is Keith Jackson unconvinced over Thelo Aasgaard offside incident?

Jackson has cast doubt over Aasgaard’s goal being disallowed due to the quality of the images provided to VAR.

Speaking on Hotline Live, Jackson said about the offside: “Have you seen the stills and sort of the rammy about that? The picture quality looks really poor on the grabs themself.”

Also featuring alongside Jackson was former referee Des Roache, with Jackson using a previous conversation with Roache as the basis behind his confusion.

The journalist suggested that Roache inferred that not every camera angle can be trusted, as they are not all equally set up.

Jackson went on to say: “I have just lost a little bit of faith after our conversation last week or the week before, Des, when I just took it for granted.

“I thought that it was the rules that it was factual that the cameras were all aligned; we can’t make a mistake with the lines, and you disheartened me when you told me that may not necessarily be the case.”

So while the Aasgaard situation looked to be offside on replay, there is slight doubt on Jackson’s part as to whether it actually was due to the images provided on the incident.

Rangers will not care too much now, as the three points ultimately came their way with Aasgaard making a case to start.

However, performances must certainly improve, as the Gers cannot afford to constantly squeak by in games as they did in Paisley.

Rangers cannot rely on referees to win the league

Whether or not the decision was truly accurate, we do have to have faith that the VAR technology for offside is correct.

Rangers and Danny Rohl cannot rely on decisions to either bail them out or affect games. Rangers must not get distracted.

Football matches are rarely decided by a single moment, and over the course of 90 minutes there are always opportunities for the G51 outfit to influence the game themselves.

The reality is that decisions will sometimes go for you and sometimes against you across a season, and in this case, the Bears had already done enough to secure the win.
