Findlay Curtis: Michael Stewart shares new Rangers narrative after Scotland squad announcement

Michael Stewart has welcomed Rangers winger Findlay Curtis being called up by Steve Clarke for the upcoming Scotland friendlies.

In the final international break before the 2026 World Cup, Scotland will take on Japan and the Ivory Coast at the end of March.

Curtis, who is currently on loan at Kilmarnock from Ibrox, has impressed enough for his maiden call.

Stewart was happy enough with that, but did suggest that a narrative could emerge that it is only because of who Curtis plays for.

Stewart has argued that he is happy with Curtis being handed a senior international chance ahead of the summer World Cup.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club, the ex-Hearts man did argue that it could cause an unwanted debate around bias among the fans.

“On the Findlay Curtis one, I’m happy with that,” Stewart said.

“I don’t have an issue with that at all, but when you see that, and you don’t see the others, it’s quite obvious that you then start to create that narrative about it’s because of who he plays for.

“Even though he’s out on loan at Killie at the moment, I don’t think that’s a healthy debate to be having either.”

How has Findlay Curtis performed at Kilmarnock?

Curtis joined Kilmarnock in the winter transfer window after a promising start to the season at Ibrox.

Despite scoring big goals against the likes of Panathinaikos in the Champions League, Russell Martin used the young winger sparingly.

That continued under Danny Rohl, but thankfully, Neil McCann’s appointment at Rugby Park opened the door to consistent minutes at Kilmarnock.

Curtis shone again on Saturday, as Killie beat Hearts 1-0 to blow open the Scottish Premiership title race again and welcome Rangers back into the hunt too.

The Bears are now only three points behind the leaders in third, with eight games of complete drama expected in the three-horse race for silverware.

Dragging Killie away from relegation danger and making a name for himself with Scotland ahead of the World Cup could make this a season to remember for the young winger.

One thing is sure, Curtis will certainly be involved at Ibrox in blue consistently from next season.
