Barry Ferguson sends ‘brilliant’ message to Rangers loanee Findlay Curtis after Scotland call-up

Barry Ferguson is certain that Findlay Curtis will embrace his first Scotland call-up after impressing on loan away from Rangers.

Kilmarnock signed the 19-year-old in the winter transfer window until the end of the season and the former Gers interim manager is delighted to see him get an opportunity under Neil McCann.

Ferguson has been impressed by the versatile forward’s determination to leave the comforts of Ibrox for regular game time at Rugby Park, with the youngster surely set for a bright future.

Danny Rohl didn’t trust Curtis much after taking over the Glaswegian outfit from Russell Martin, but Steve Clarke probably sees something in the Scottish youngster that may help the national team at the 2026 World Cup.

Findlay Curtis Rangers transfer decision pays off

Ferguson reveals that the Gers were part of Crutis’ big decision to join Kilmarnock on loan for regular game time.

The winger wanted regular minutes away from Ibrox after barely starting any games in the William Hill Premiership for the Light Blues.

Curtis was one of the best players on the pitch as McCann helped the Govan side in the title race by beating Derek McInnes’ Hearts 1-0 at home on 14 March.

Clarke was at Rugby Park watching the game and the young attacker must have surely caught his eye with an impressive all-around display at Rugby Park.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 16 March, Ferguson said, “It’s brilliant for the young man. He made a big decision. I know Rangers were part of that as well. It would have been easy for Findlay to stay at Rangers and sit on the bench and get an odd game here and there.

“But he wanted to go and play, and he’s had that opportunity under Neil McCann at Kilmarnock, and he’s really flourished, and I think it’s brilliant for his development. I watched him on Saturday night and I thought he was excellent on the left of a diamond. He was really good.

“I noticed Steve Clarke was there. So obviously, he’s kept an eye on him, and he’s impressed him that much that he’s got the call-up. Listen, the young man will go and embrace it.”

What would Findlay Curtis return to Ibrox mean for some players?

Rohl must make Curtis a key player at Rangers next season, with the Scottish youngster clearly capable of contributing at Ibrox.

The winger has played multiple positions under McCann at Kilmarnock and can be a replacement for the likes of Andreas Skov Olsen and Mikey Moore in the squad once they leave the Gers at the end of the season.

Curtis has also played at right-back for the Killies, and with James Tavernier’s future in the balance, the Light Blues may already have a replacement on their books.

The Scot winger will feel he’s done enough to challenge for a starting spot at the Glaswegian outfit, but it remains to be seen what the German manager has in mind.
