Rangers chiefs already plan for 2026-27 as scouts fly out to Portugal

Rangers scouts were reportedly in attendance to watch Porto’s league clash with Moreirense over the weekend.

Porto were 3-0 winners in the Primeira Liga clash at Estadio do Dragao on Sunday thanks to goals from Gabri Veiga, Oskar Pietuszewski and William Gomes.

Rangers figures were interested spectators for the game, but they were not alone as other teams also sent scouts.

And it appears that while the 2025-26 season is still in full swing, Rangers transfer chiefs already have one eye on next season.

🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.

Rangers keep close eye on Porto vs Moreirense

As per a report by Portuguese outlet Record, Rangers, Sevilla, Saint-Etienne, Alaves and Stuttgart all had representatives in attendance.

However, what is less clear is exactly who the Rangers scouts were keeping tabs on.

A number of players stood out, not least Victor Froholdt as he assisted a couple of his side’s goals.

Right-back Martim Fernandes scored the second-highest rating on the day behind Froholdt.

In terms of the visitors, goalkeeper Andre Ferreira may have conceded three goals but he also pulled off six saves.

While it is unknown who was being looked at, this update goes to show that Rangers chiefs are clearly serious about their summer plans.

Danny Rohl may have liked what he saw in January

Rangers played at the Estadio do Dragao just a couple of months ago, as they fell to a 3-1 loss in Portugal with their Europa League hopes already done for.

Rodrigo Mora and Francisco Moura were on the scoresheet that day, before Emmanuel Fernandez’s own goal.

As per Sofascore, midfielder Mora was Porto’s best-performing player that day as he scored a rating of 7.5.

For what it is worth, the 18-year-old came on as a second-half substitute against Moreirense on Sunday.

Signing players from Porto may sound a little out of Rangers’ price range, but Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers have already shown they will put their money where their mouth is.

Only time will tell how this scouting mission went, but it is encouraging that wheels are already in motion behind the scenes.
