Rangers: Nicolas Raskin lauded for ‘unbelievable’ assist vs St Mirren, but stats show he’s still not back to best

Nicolas Raskin got the assist for Tuur Rommens’ goal in Rangers‘ win against St. Mirren.

Rangers reduced the gap from Hearts to just three points on Sunday, with Rommens’ goal proving to be the difference against St. Mirren.

It wasn’t an all guns blazing performance from the Gers, but it was a well-deserved win that all came from Raskin’s assist.

Raskin’s performance was much improved, but there were still aspects in his game that will concern Danny Rohl in Rangers’ hunt for the Scottish Premier League title.

Rangers still need more from Nicolas Raskin

There was plenty to praise Raskin for on Sunday, and not just his assist.

Via Sportsound, Steven Thompson brandished it as an “unbelievable” ball into the box by the Belgian, with it being their first real chance of the game.

The 25-year-old created four chances at The SMISA Stadium, with two of those having been deemed as big chances for the Light Blues.

He won two fouls in the 90 minutes he played, as well as having completed his only attempted dribble, as showcased by his Sofascore graphic below.

However, there were also concerns over his display, with neither of his two shots hitting the target, as well as the fact that Raskin won just six of his 13 duels in the middle of the park.

His composure on the ball is usually up there with the best, but he managed to complete just 71 per cent of his attempted passes.

There were certainly more positives than negatives on this occasion, but as Gers fans will know by now, Raskin is still capable of a lot more.

Tuur Rommens emerges with the most credit after Rangers win

Rommens’ performance went far beyond his goal, as has been the case many times already this season since his winter transfer.

The 22-year-old created five chances from left-back, as well as winning four of his eight duels in the game.

Rommens has comfortably been one of the best additions at Ibrox under Rohl, and he continued that form with another match-winning performance.
