‘Rangers win at St. Mirren won’t make difference as Old Firm woes too significant to overcome’

Rangers are heading into a make-or-break game against St. Mirren.

Danny Rohl’s side were beaten in a Scottish Cup Old Firm derby last weekend, and the Bears may have no more room for losses this season.

They travel to the SMISA Stadium on Sunday to take on managerless St. Mirren, who recently parted ways with Stephen Robinson.

Another loss could see calls for Rohl to be sacked intensify as Gers now face the prospect of a season where they came nowhere near winning silverware.

Barry Ferguson, for one, is under no illusion that Rangers need to improve.

Barry Ferguson says Rangers need to win nine in row amid Old Firm losss

Some have defended Rohl’s potential sacking at Rangers, with many Gers supporters split on what to do with the Gers boss.

The reality of their situation is that the Scottish Premiership title is slipping away from them as Hearts continue to impress, and now there is a lack of feel-good factor at Ibrox.

While speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live, Keith Jackson asked Ferguson about a remedy for Rangers’ Old Firm loss, with the latter suggesting that Gers need to win their last nine league games to overcome the defeat.

Ferguson said: “It has to be [nine wins from nine]. You’ve got nine games, look at the game against St. Mirren, albeit they’ve lost their manager, it won’t make a difference.

“You need to go for it. There will be twists and turns, but Rangers can’t have any more twists and turns. You can’t rely on other teams. You’ve got to focus on number one, Rangers, and that starts with St. Mirren.

The former Gers boss insists that the Bears need to “go for it” with his suggestion, showing that there is no more margin for error now following the loss to Celtic.

However, one slip-up, and that could cause even more Gers fans to pile in on Rohl, which could spell the end for the German head coach.

This is St. Mirren’s biggest threat; Rohl will need to be careful

As season already this season, anything can happen in the Scottish Premiership, and there’s no reason why Rangers can’t win their last nine games of the campaign.

Rohl has led the Bears to long winning runs before, and as Ferguson suggests, a win over St. Mirren would be a start for a very difficult task that lies ahead.

As seen in the table above, St. Mirren excel in one area better than anyone else in the league, and that’s long balls.

Rohl will need to have his defence switched on for this game, as the Buddies will look to make it a scrap and will take anything they can get inside the box.
