Rangers and Celtic learn likely outcome from shameful Ibrox scenes – ‘I’ve been told…’

Rangers and Celtic fans could be set for Old Firm disappointment after Sunday’s antics.

The Gers played out a second derby clash with Martin O’Neill’s men for the second time in as many weeks at Ibrox.

A goalless draw eventually made way for the Hoops to secure a penalty shootout victory after misses from James Tavernier and Djeidi Gassama.

That sparked massively unsavoury scenes as fans of both sides invaded the pitch and left a sour taste in the mouth.

There have now been massive questions asked about Rangers, Celtic and future Old Firm clashes if supporters can’t act in an appropriate manner.

Behind-closed-doors clash mooted for Rangers vs Celtic

There is no defending the actions of either set of supporters for their actions after Tomas Cvancara netted the winning penalty in G51.

The Czechia international would have had no idea what sort of scenes he would unleash as flares were launched in the midst of ugly Ibrox scenes.

Police and stewards struggled to deal with the sheer mass of fans entering the field of play, with a barrier being formed to keep the respective supporters apart.

They all eventually returned to the stands, but the entire event was enough to raise serious concerns about the safety surrounding the fixture.

Paul Slane of the Keeping The Ball On The Ground podcast has now revealed that he believes the next Old Firm clash will be behind closed doors for both sets of supporters.

He said: “I’ve been told today that it could be behind closed doors, the next Old Firm game. Both sets of fans.”

There have also been suggestions of points deductions for both Rangers and Celtic as the pitch invasion fallout continues.

Rangers and Celtic can have no complaints

Celtic were handed a massive allocation at Ibrox, and the atmosphere was simply spine-tingling, but it won’t be remembered for that reason.

Graeme Souness believes there will be no away fans allowed in an Old Firm ever again, even after making the ground totally electric.

That appears to be the case based on what Slane has said, with both sets of supporters set to watch from home because of their own actions.

There can be no complaints of any punishments that are in the pipeline, and a stadium ban may just be the tip of the iceberg.

Danny Rohl and O’Neill may look on and feel frustrated by what is to come, but their own supporters are the ones to blame.
