Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard to replace Danny Rohl in wild new Rangers prediction

Ewen Cameron has predicted that either Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard will replace Danny Rohl at Rangers in the summer.

Pressure is rapidly building on Rohl in the aftermath of the Gers’ bitter Scottish Cup knockout at the hands of Celtic, leaving them with just the Scottish Premiership to play for.

But they are six points off the pace behind leaders Hearts and also slipped below their Glasgow rivals after squandering a two-goal lead against them at Ibrox on March 1.

While the Bears will be keen to give Rohl time after he inherited a poisoned chalice, speculation over his future has begun to swirl again after the latest Old Firm setback.

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard linked with Rangers

Rohl, who has faced sack claims since the loss, has done well to drag Rangers back into top-flight contention, but he hasn’t matched the highs of Gerrard’s time in charge.

Gerrard, of course, steered the Gers to their first league title in 10 years in his first job in senior management, but departed for Aston Villa in November 2021.

Perhaps crucially, he is currently out of work and held talks with the Ibrox club over a potential return last October, before deciding against taking the job.

Lampard, meanwhile, has been performing wonders at Championship outfit Coventry City, and Cameron is confident he will also be among the Rangers frontrunners.

Speaking on the STV Radio Football Show, presenter Cameron said: “Danny Rohl should not be the manager of Rangers. I think he’s got away with it. I think he’s had quite a bit of luck.

“I would suggest that he will not be the manager in the summer. I think that either Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard will be in the hot seat at Ibrox for the start of the new season.”

For now, there are no indications that Rangers are weighing up parting company with Rohl, but this could, of course, change depending on how they end the campaign.

Rangers must back Rohl

Supporters are right to begin asking questions of Rohl after back-to-back disappointments against Celtic, leaving Rangers with just one win in their last five matches.

49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh certainly threw their weight behind the German during the winter transfer window, and will therefore expect results to change.

However, Rohl has shown more than enough to prove he can lead the club back to glory. He has unified the dressing room and got them moving in the right direction.

It is just a shame that bizarre tactical and selection decisions have undermined this good work, and the 36-year-old must learn from these mistakes – and quickly.

If he does, there is absolutely no reason not to keep him in place for next season.
