Aiden McGeady reveals what he’s never seen Andreas Skov Olsen do as Rangers concerns grow

Andreas Skov Olsen is having a hard time settling into life at Rangers, and people are starting to notice.

The winger came to Ibrox on loan this winter, in a deal which sees the 49ers have the option to make his move permanent for £8.6million.

However, some are of the belief that the winger hasn’t done enough to extend his stay with the Bears beyond this season after quiet performances.

Rangers lost to Celtic in a Scottish Cup Old Firm showdown on Sunday, and Aiden McGeady has also been left rather unimpressed with Danny Rohl’s winger.

Aiden McGeady says Andreas Skov Olsen is ‘one-paced’

Skov Olsen didn’t have the best game against Celtic and was taken off the pitch just after the hour mark, being replaced by Djeidi Gassama, who also had little impact.

The Dane did manage to grab an assist against the Hoops in the 2-2 draw last time out in the league, but was pretty absent for the Bears in attacks for this game.

While speaking on Open Goal, McGeady reviewed Celtic’s win over Rangers, and picked out Skov Olsen as one man who he didn’t feel impressed with.

McGeady said: “What has happened to wide players these days when they don’t actually commit anymore? He [Skov Olsen] looks very one-paced, but he’s very, very prone to it when he’s got the full-back [there]. Just drag the ball down the line and try to get a cross in or get a corner.

“I’ve never seen him take anybody down the line once, apart from maybe one time against [Liam] Scales.”

The former winger also complained about Skov Olsen’s inability to use his weak foot, something which Gers fans have also noticed.

Now, Rohl will have to go back to the drawing board with his team selections.

Danny Rohl’s dilemma: Djeidi Gassama or Skov Olsen

Many thought that Gassama would be the biggest winner when Rohl was announced as the new Gers boss, given the pairs previous time together at Sheffield Wednesday.

But the Frenchman has also drawn criticism, and didn’t really help his own case by sending a penalty over the bar against the Bhoys.

It may have been a sign of a lack of confidence, which isn’t ideal given Skov Olsen isn’t in the best of form. Rohl now has to decide on which winger to use, with both offering completely different qualities.

Gassama has speed and explosive power that can help the Bears on counterattacks, while Skov Olsen possesses more technical ability than the former, which helps to unpick defences.

Rangers’ game against St. Mirren on Sunday may be a huge indication as to who he prefers, given both are out of form in blue and white right now.
