Chris Sutton hits back at what Danny Rohl said after Rangers loss v Celtic – ‘That’s not true’
Danny Rohl believed that his Rangers side was the better team over 120 minutes against Celtic on Sunday.
Rangers were sent crashing out of the Scottish Cup Quarter-final by their Old Firm rivals in a fiery Ibrox encounter which had everything but quality.
The Gers boss stuck to a similar team and shape as the one that drew 2-2 with Celtic last time out in the league, and as a result, the Bears paid the price.
Rohl spoke to the media after Rangers’ loss to Celtic, insisting that his side were unfortunate to be beaten on penalties.

Chris Sutton doesn’t agree with Danny Rohl penalty luck claim
Rohl has faced sack claims since the loss, which will only be intensified should the German head coach not lead his side to the league title this season.
The Rangers boss admitted that the shootout was always going to be a “little bit about luck”, but it appears that Chris Sutton disagrees with him.
- Rangers are now winless in three under Rohl
- He has a 25% win ratio against Celtic
While commenting bluntly on X, Sutton hinted at the lack of quality that Rangers showed in the game, which transpired into the penalty shootout, after hearing Rohl’s assessment.
Sutton wrote: “”A shootout is luck,” that’s not true – it’s balls and skills.”
Rangers skipper James Tavernier got the Gers’ shootout off on the wrong foot with his miss, as Djeidi Gassama’s poor penalty sealed his side’s fate.
The Bears showed their lack of composure in the shootout, and Rohl will have to hope that this changes should Gers find themselves in the same scenario sometime soon.
Danny Rohl made a bold call with Mohamed Diomande; here’s why
There were suggestions for Rohl to start with Mohamed Diomande this time against Celtic, which he did, but not in a flat three midfield.
The Rangers boss was quick to bring Tochi Chukwuani off the bench at halftime, who then replaced a lacklustre showing from Diomande.

But it was Rohl’s tactical decision that slowed the game down for Gers in the end, as he clearly got the setup in the first 45 all wrong.
With Rangers’ midfield pairing of Chukwuani and Nicolas Raskin looking so strong already, it may be hard for Diomande to play a significant role for the Bears from now until the end of the season, especially after his performance.
Who knows? Maybe the 24-year-old could be shown the door at Ibrox this summer. He would surely bring in an extra couple of millions for the 49ers to play around with.
