‘Tuur Rommens already better in one area than Borna Barisic at Rangers’ after winter transfer
Rangers full-back Tuur Rommens has been told he is already an improvement defensively over Borna Barisic.
Rommens arrived at Ibrox from Westerlo during the January transfer window and has caught the eye during his first couple of months working under Danny Rohl.
The 22-year-old was deservedly rewarded with a fifth consecutive start in all competitions against Celtic in the Scottish Cup quarter-final defeat at Ibrox on Sunday.
The left-back was signed as an eventual replacement for Barisic, who departed the Bears in 2024 after an impressive six-year spell, but Rommens may already have the edge over him.
What is certain is that this Rangers transfer has paid off handsomely.

What has Michael Stewart said about Tuur Rommens?
That is the opinion of Michael Stewart, who struck an intriguing comparison between the two defenders during the build-up to the latest Old Firm derby in Glasgow.
In doing so, he suggested that Rommens appears to be a step up in one crucial area.
“When you look back to when Steven Gerrard was here, they played narrow and their width came from full-backs,” said Stewart, speaking on Premier Sports.
“The one thing he is a lot better than Barisic at is that defensive instinct with Rommens.”
Brought in for just £4million, Rommens certainly looks like a real bargain. He has performed consistently and steadily, and just like Barisic, proven to be a safe pair of hands.
Rommens proved he is Rangers’ left-back of the future against Livingston, as detailed in the below Sofascore graphic, and has impressed at both ends of the pitch.

However, it is his defensive diligence that will be pivotal in Gers’ title bid.
Rommens must be Rangers transfer blueprint
It’s fair to say that Rommens is already a favourite among the Ibrox faithful, with his displays against Celtic in particular bringing supporters to their feet.
His relatively meagre price tag is looking more like a coup with every passing match, and Rangers must try their utmost to repeat this trick after too many transfer failures.
The full-back has both the quality and the attitude needed to succeed at the Govan club, and while this is a difficult combination to scout, these traits must become non-negotiables.
Simply, they must find players willing to live and die by the sword, just like Rommens. There is, of course, an element of risk, but when done properly, these deals are worth the plunge.
