Rangers fans will be delighted with Danny Rohl after team news for Scottish Cup clash vs Celtic

Nasser Djiga has been rightfully named in the Rangers starting lineup by Danny Rohl for Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final clash at Ibrox.

Both sides played out a thrilling 2-2 draw last time out in the Scottish Premiership, with the Bears letting a two-goal lead slip after being in cruise control throughout the first half.

Although Martin O’Neill’s side have failed to win on their last five trips to G51, they’ll be buoyed by the comeback and focused on knocking Rangers out of another cup competition this season.

Rohl has stuck with the majority of the team from Rangers’ meeting with Celtic last week, but bringing Djiga into the side for John Souttar is a very good sign for the fans.

Nasser Djiga starts as Danny Rohl makes two changes

Djiga joined Rangers on loan from Wolves until the end of the season, and he initially struggled with life at Ibrox under Russell Martin.

The Burkina Faso international made several mistakes for the Bears in the first half of the campaign, and he was eventually dropped when his position in the team became untenable.

However, as seen by the Sofascore stats below, Djiga has stepped up when called upon by Rohl, and given the fact that Souttar isn’t in the best of form, the 23-year-old would have expected more minutes.

Unfortunately, Souttar has still been preferred in the Scottish Premiership, despite making mistakes against Motherwell, Livingston and Hearts in recent weeks.

Rangers fans had been crying out for Souttar to be dropped for Djiga, and it seems as though their calls have finally been answered, with the Burkina Faso international playing alongside Emmanuel Fernandez in defence.

As for the other change to the team, Mohamed Diomade replaces Tochi Chukwuani in midfield.

Rangers can’t afford to lose to Celtic, and if they do, then the pressure will inevitably increase on Rohl.

Nicolas Raskin has to prove his worth vs Celtic

They’ll need all of their players to be at their best, and no one is more important than Nicolas Raskin.

Arguably Rangers’ most important player, the Belgian midfielder has gone off the boil in 2026, which has come at a terrible time for Rohl.

In the Old Firm derby last week, Raskin was outmanned several times, and it’s clear that he isn’t at the level Rangers need defensively.

There have been several fans, as well as ex-Gers legend Barry Ferguson, demanding that he plays in attacking midfield as it brings out the best of his attacking attributes.

However, it looks like he’ll play alongside Diomande at the heart of the team, and he needs to prove those doubters wrong with a flawless performance.
