Mikey Moore backed to have a big impact on Rangers vs Celtic after ‘amazing’ scenes

Mikey Moore will be hoping to repeat his showing from last week when Rangers host Celtic on Sunday.

Moore has grown into one of Danny Rohl’s star men at Ibrox since joining on loan from Tottenham in the summer.

He has five goals and three assists in 37 matches for the Light Blues so far this season, but his performances have been about much more than goal contributions.

He has been tipped to star when Rangers face Celtic again in the second meeting in a matter of days in the Scottish Cup on 8 March.

What was said about Mikey Moore ahead of Celtic clash?

Former Scotland ace Pat Nevin was in attendance for the previous Old Firm clash, the 2-2 draw last time out, and he enjoyed what he saw from the Gers star.

The ex-Chelsea and Everton winger believes that Moore could be the difference-maker for Rangers when the sides meet again.

Speaking to Mail Sport, he said: “Mikey Moore in the first half was up there with one of the best displays I’ve seen in Scotland this season.

“I thought he was amazing, he fell out of it in the second half, but for that kid at that age to be able to do it in that game was fantastic, and he could be a big player on Sunday.”

How did Rangers star Moore perform against Celtic last time?

Moore was one of Rohl’s side’s best performers against the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership clash on 1 March.

He recorded one shot in the contest, which resulted in 0.04 expected goals, per Sofascore.

The Spurs loanee created two big chances for teammates and completed 79 per cent of his passes.

He was willing to take on his man, completing three of six dribbles for a 50 per cent success rate, and also made 16 carries.

Perhaps the best part of his performance was his willingness to defend, as he made three total contributions: one interception and two recoveries.

He also won seven of 14 ground duels, showing the heart and desire that is needed in the heavy-pressure contest.

If he turns in another determined, gritty showing, as the one that saw Nevin praise him very highly in the Scottish Cup, the Bears will have a great chance of coming away with the win.

Given the way that Moore has developed since he moved to Scottish football, it would not be a surprise if he does just that and enhances his reputation even further.

Rohl will hope and pray that his side can get one over on their rivals, and the youngster’s showing could be vital.
