Rangers fans in horribly familiar situation as Danny Rohl uncertainty emerges at Ibrox

Keith Jackson believes Danny Rohl is at a crossroads at Rangers after dropping crucial points in the William Hill Premiership.

The Daily Record journalist feels the Gers fans have been in similar situations in the past where they’ve been given false hope of success, only to be left disappointed.

After Celtic’s 2-1 win over Aberdeen on 4 March at Pittodrie, the Light Blues are now third in the league table, six points behind table-toppers Hearts.

There has already been some speculation around the German manager’s future in Govan, and what he does next may determine his future in G51.

Rangers their worst enemies in William Hill Premiership

Rohl deserves massive credit for bringing the Gers back from the brink and challenging for the title this season.

Under Russell Martin, the Ibrox faithful had no hope of challenging in the William Hill Premiership, but the former Sheffield Wednesday boss has changed that perspective.

Despite how far the German manager has brought the Light Blues, there are slight concerns now about whether he has the ability to take them over the line.

While the Govan side are on an 11-game unbeaten run in the league, they’ve dropped eight points in their last six matches, giving Hearts and Celtic the chance to leave them behind.

Writing in the Daily Record on 6 March, Jackson said, “Fair or not, that’s precisely where Rohl now finds himself. This unassuming, quietly spoken German has come to a crossroads in Govan and his next steps are very likely to determine his chances of hanging around in this city for the long haul. Or not.

“These fans have been let down often enough to spot a faltering, flawed title challenge when they see one. And, given the extent of this scar tissue, the dropping of eight points from the last 21 available must seem horribly familiar.”

Danny Rohl in unfair position ahead of Celtic cup tie

Rohl will welcome Martin O’Neill’s team back to Ibrox on 8 March in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup quarter-final.

Some Rangers fans feel it may determine what the future holds for the German manager, who many want to see lift silverware in the current campaign.

If the Light Blues are unable to go all the way in the cup competition and are also unsuccessful in the league, Rohl may find himself in an unfair position.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss will feel he’s already done enough to secure his tenure in Glasgow for the 2026-27 campaign, but it remains to be seen how fans in G51 will feel come the end of May.
