Mikey Moore backed for freedom of Ibrox vs Celtic as Rangers trust shared
Mikey Moore is primed for another starring role for Rangers in the Old Firm clash coming up this Sunday.
The Bears will be hoping to stamp their authority at Ibrox this weekend as they host Celtic for another Old Firm derby, this time in the Scottish Cup Quarter-final.
The Hoops had a midweek victory over Aberdeen, while Danny Rohl’s men will have had a full week to prepare come game day, as Moore could be the German head coach’s biggest weapon.
There will be lots of debate leading up to the game on who should start, but Moore‘s name now appears to be one of the first ones on the teamsheet.

Derek Ferguson says he’d let Mikey Moore ‘do what he wants’ vs Celtic
Moore’s performances were drawing some uncomfortable conversations early in his career with Rangers, but the winger has had nothing but an upward trajectory since Rohl’s arrival.
The Tottenham loanee has been going from strength to strength, and the fact that he now has new top-quality signings next to him only helps performances and chemistry.
- Moore has seven goal contributions in 24 league appearances
- He averages a current Sofascore rating of 6.93
There aren’t many who are bigger fans of Moore than Derek Ferguson, who insists he would let the youngster have the keys to do what he wants at Ibrox against Celtic.
While speaking on Open Goal, Ferguson said: “Moore can do what he wants; I’d give him a free role. I trust Moore to go back as well to fill in gaps; that’s why I think [Andreas Skov] Olsen won’t get anywhere near him.
“Mikey Moore, when we’re in possession, let him go where he wants and let him get on the ball.”
Rohl will likely deploy Moore on the wide left once more, but it would be no surprise to see him play in a role that affects the game from central too.
This is what Rohl will have learned from last Celtic game
Nothing will change too much from Rangers’ 2-2 draw against Celtic last weekend, if anything, Rohl has had the benefit of the two managers with time to prepare.
Youssef Chermiti helped the Bears to a blistering start, but Gers gave the visitors the luxury of time and respect on the ball in the second 45.
| Stat | 1st half | 2nd half |
| Possession | 49% | 42% |
| Shots | 7 | 5 |
| Shots on target | 2 | 1 |
| Pass accuracy | 72% | 66% |
As seen in the table above, Rangers took their foot off the gas in the second half against Celtic, allowing them to grow into the game, eventually striking late, something which needs to be looked at.
Had they scored another goal, the three points would have been wrapped up, and Rohl will now known that this next game proves a perfect chance to right his team’s wrongs.
