Rangers draw vs Celtic amazes as evidence emerges in miracle title race

Rangers and Celtic don’t have what it takes to win the William Hill Premiership after the Old Firm derby on Sunday.

Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson believes the 2-2 draw at Ibrox on 1 March is all the evidence needed to determine that Hearts can win the league title this season.

The Light Blues took a two-goal advantage into the break after a vintage first-half performance from Youssef Chermiti, but Martin O’Neill subsequently got the better of Danny Rohl in the second half.

Kieran Tierney and Reo Hatate equalised for the Hoops, leaving the Govan side six points behind the Jam Tarts.

Danny Rohl at risk of Ibrox mutiny after Rangers vs Celtic

Rohl has done a brilliant job since taking over the Gers, but some fans wonder whether he has a ceiling.

While the German manager has brought stability back to Ibrox, the Light Blues have often struggled to dominate games against the top sides.

It was a game of two halves against Celtic, with the former Sheffield Wednesday boss unable to answer any of the questions posed by O’Neill in the second half at Ibrox.

While the 4-2 win over Hearts in Govan was an impressive display from the Glaswegian outfit, such displays have arguably been few and far between.

Supporters in G51 will rightly question if Rohl has the quality needed to take the Gers all the way in the coming seasons.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 1 March, Jackson said, “Wow, what did we just see? I don’t know what we just saw. For me, that today is all the evidence you need as to why Hearts can pull this miracle off this season because neither of these sides are Championship-winning material for me.”

Danny Rohl has obvious change to make as Celtic return to Ibrox

Rangers face Celtic on 8 March in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox, and Rohl must learn lessons from the draw.

One player who shouldn’t start the cup tie is Andreas Skov Olsen, who didn’t make much of an impact in his 74 minutes on the pitch.

While the Danish winger did get the assist for Chermiti’s brilliant overhead kick goal, he didn’t contribute much the rest of the game.

It would make sense to bring in Mohamed Diomande to provide more control in the midfield on Celtic’s return to Govan, and Rohl can’t afford to slip up in another competition in a matter of a week.
