Danny Rohl could become Rangers history maker already vs Celtic – here’s exactly how

Danny Rohl knows that Rangers have to beat Celtic if his side want to maintain their hopes of winning the Scottish Premiership.

There is huge optimism around Govan that they could win the league for the first time since 2020-21 and a win against their rivals would certainly put the momentum back on their side.

Last Sunday’s 2-2 draw away to Livingston may have dampened the mood slightly, but Rohl is confident that his side can get back to winning ways against Martin O’Neill’s Celtic, who lost their last league match 2-1 to Hibernian.

There are huge stakes on the line for both teams, but Rangers go into the match as the favourites, and Rohl could achieve something no other Gers manager has previously done.

This is how Danny Rohl could make history vs Celtic

Celtic haven’t won on their last four visits to Ibrox, which shows the importance of the crowd’s role on Sunday.

In fact, the Hoops have only won two of their last 12 away games at Rangers in all competitions, with the last two ending in draws.

After Rangers won 3-1 at Celtic Park in January, Rohl could become the first ever manager to win both of his first two league Old Firm derbies in charge of Rangers.

This would be an incredible achievement for the German head coach, who has quickly won over the fans in G51.

Rangers’ all-time record vs Celtic

Rangers have also won each of their last 10 home games in all competitions by an aggregate score of 32-4.

The Bears last recorded 11 successive home wins in December 2013 under Ally McCoist (11), and last did so within a single season in April 2003 under Alex McLeish (18).

All the stats point to Rangers securing all three points on Sunday, and if that were to happen, it would be another sign that Rohl is clearly the right man for the job.

Rohl has several top-quality attacking options at his disposal, but Mikey Moore will undoubtedly be looking to steal the headlines for the Bears once again.

How Mikey Moore could equal brilliant 12-year Scottish Premiership record vs Celtic

Moore, who scored in the last Old Firm derby, has five goals in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The last player to score more while aged 18 or younger in a season in the competition was Ryan Gauld in 2013-14 (six), and the last non-Scottish player to do so in the top-flight was James McCarthy in 2008-09 (also six).

The Tottenham loanee may have taken a while to find his feet for the Ibrox outfit, but it’s clear that he is now one of the most influential players in Rohl’s squad.

In the Scottish Premiership this season, Moore has completed 30 successful dribbles and registered seven goal contributions, which showcases his threat to opposing defences.

While it’s unclear whether he’ll play out wide or in attacking midfield, he’s definitely the man who will be at the heart of Rangers’ creative play in the final third.

And if he finds himself on the scoresheet, then it will be another personal achievement that he has ticked off in his short career so far.
