Rangers door opens for Nathan Patterson return amid latest transfer update

Nathan Patterson departed Rangers in 2022.

Having signed for Everton over four years ago in a deal worth in the region of £16million, Patterson remains the second-most expensive sale at Ibrox, behind Calvin Bassey.

However, his career since his move away from the Light Blues has been average at best, and injuries have played a big part in that.

The 24-year-old has missed 51 games for club and country since his move to the Premier League, having only recently returned from a muscle injury for the Toffees.

But with Everton already on the lookout for a right-back in the summer, a return could be on the cards at Ibrox.

Zakaria El Ouahdi could set Nathan Patterson return in motion

Patterson has been linked with a return to Rangers on several occasions, but with his level of importance diminishing at Everton, those links will only amplify.

And now, the Toffees have been linked with a move to sign Zakaria El Ouahdi from Genk, which could open the door for it to happen.

El Ouahdi has been in top form for KRC Genk this season, with 10 goal involvements across all competitions.

Should Everton pursue a move, it would almost certainly be with the idea of having him in their starting 11, which would cast Patterson aside.

With James Tavernier ageing, the Light Blues need to have plans in place to replace him, and given the form he showcased throughout his time in Scottish football previously, Patterson would be a great option.

How much would Rangers have to pay for Patterson?

Not only has his time at Everton been plagued by injuries, but Patterson has also failed to showcase his true worth in the Premier League.

That, added with the fact that he will have one year left on his deal at the end of the current campaign, means that a return isnt likely to cost an awful amount.

In fact, there is every chance that Rangers would be able to bring him back to Ibrox for a fee lower than they initially sold him for.

Wages would likely be the only defining factor, given the gulf in finances between English and Scottish football.
