James Tavernier and ex-Rangers stars react as Kemar Roofe sends transfer message
James Tavernier is still keeping up with former Rangers teammate Kemar Roofe’s career.
The striker enjoyed a profitable spell at Ibrox, making 102 appearances for the Govan side, with 38 goals and seven assists.
Roofe joined League Two side Walsall in November 2025 on a short-term contract, but it appears that his time with the Saddlers is over.
Tavernier and other former Rangers stars have reacted after the 33-year-old’s latest update on his future.
How did Tavernier and others react to Roofe news?
Roofe has announced that he has left his hometown club, taking to social media on 25 February to confirm his departure from the EFL outfit.
Posting on Instagram, he said: “The Saddlers, it’s been a pleasure being part of this club even though it has been very short. Hope you all the success and promotion.”
Tavernier liked the post, as did current Gers teammate Mohamed Diomande.
Former Light Blues stars such as Leon Balogun, Danilo, Robbie Fraser, Steven Davis and Glen Kamara also reacted to the update by liking the post.
Roofe’s time at Rangers revisited
Roofe signed for the Bears in August 2020, for a fee believed to be in the region of £4.5million.
He scored a memorable goal in the Europa League group stage away victory over Standard Liege, from his own half, which was the longest-range goal ever scored in the competition at the time.
He made 24 appearances in the 2020-21 league season, scoring 14 goals and assisting four times as Steven Gerrard’s side secured the Scottish Premiership title.
The veteran also notched two goals and one assist as the Light Blues made it to the Europa League final the following season, although they would lose on penalties in the final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
He would also play a part in the Scottish Cup win in the 2021-22 campaign and the Scottish League Cup victory in the 2023-24 season.
He left Govan in June 2024 when his contract expired, and spent eight months as a free agent before signing with Derby County, on a contract until the end of the 2024–25 campaign.
Roofe was a fan favourite in G51 and he made a significant impact, on and off the pitch, in his time in Glasgow, as shown by the support that he has recieved from Gers, both past and present after his latest announcement.
