Who is Rangers target Cameron Ashia and which Premier League star is he related to?
Rangers are one of several sides in the race for Huddersfield Town winger Cameron Ashia.
Ashia, who is also being tracked by Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts, has six League One goal contributions to his name this season, despite only starting two games.
According to the Daily Mail, the 19-year-old is out-of-contract in the summer, which has drawn the attention of Danny Rohl’s side.
However, along with Rangers and Hearts, there are several Championship teams in the race for the teenager, so the Glasgow giants will have to move quickly to get a deal over the line.
Who is Cameron Ashia?
Ashia spent a year at Derby County in the 2022-23 season, training and playing with their Under-18s side before being released.
However, the winger managed to win himself a trial at Huddersfield and was eventually signed on a full-time contract.
He scored on his professional debut for the Terriers at the start of this season, and while he has been restricted to substitute appearances for the majority of the campaign, he has still managed a big impact.
Ashia came off the bench for Huddersfield last Saturday during their 2-1 victory over Barnsley and grabbed an assist for the winning goal.
Liam Manning’s side still have a shot at promotion this season, currently sitting sixth in League One, occupying the final play-off place.
Cameron Ashia related to Callum Hudson-Odoi
Interestingly, Ashia is the nephew of Callum Hudson-Odoi, who currently plays his football for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
Hudson-Odoi, who is also a winger himself, came through the Chelsea academy, spending five years in and around the senior team before a loan move to Bayer Leverkusen.
The 25-year-old then completed a permanent switch to Forest in the summer of 2023, scoring 16 Premier League goals in 85 appearances since then.
If Rangers do manage to get a deal for Ashia over the line, they will hope he can replicate his uncle and develop into a very solid winger at the top level.
However, it remains to be seen whether Rohl’s side will go all out for the Huddersfield man in the summer.
