Peter Lovenkrands wowed by Jerome Prior footage after what Rangers couldn’t do

Rangers hero Peter Lovenkrands was in awe of Livingston’s Jerome Prior in Sunday’s 2-2 draw.

Sunday saw Rangers‘ Scottish Premiership title chances take a significant blow, as Danny Rohl’s side drew 2-2 with the league’s bottom-placed side, Livingston.

Brooklyn Kabongolo gave the Lions a shock lead just 14 minutes into the game, before Lewis Smith doubled their advantage on 56 minutes, posting a scoreline that sent shockwaves through Scottish football.

However, Cristian Montano’s red card on the hour mark changed the game, as late goals from Emmanuel Fernandez and Mikey Moore salvaged a point for Gers, but did little to spare their blushes.

What did Peter Lovenkrands say about Livingston’s Jerome Prior?

For Livingston, Sunday’s point won against Rangers was one of their biggest results in their recent history.

It marked the first time they’ve taken points from the Gers in seven games, and they almost came close to snapping a 23-game winless streak against the Ibrox outfit, dating back to September 2018.

However, whilst they will be gutted it wasn’t three points, Marvin Bartley’s side will still be over the moon with a point, and it’s their goalkeeper Prior that they largely have to thank for that.

As per Sofascore, the 30-year-old made nine saves, prevented 1.90 goals and made 16 recoveries against Rangers, and showed why even if Livingston are to be relegated this season, he’s likely to draw interest from Premiership clubs in the summer.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene, Lovenkrands waxed lyrical about Prior’s performance, and hailed him as the reason why Rangers weren’t able to take all three points on Sunday.

“Jerome Prior, honestly, what a performance he had,” Lovenkrands began.

“He will also feel hard done by coming home after this, conceding two goals after all the saves he’s had: he kept Livingston in the game.

“Rangers tried, but they just couldn’t beat him. He was everywhere…he is probably the man of why they got the draw. He definitely deserved man of the match.”

Prior might’ve put himself on Rangers’ radar on Sunday

Sometimes, an opposition player can put in a performance against a certain side which leaves a lasting impression, and Prior has surely done that with Rangers on Sunday.

The Frenchman put in the performance of his life against Gers, and with Livingston looking likely to be relegated this season, he’s surely shown that he deserves to continue playing Premiership football.

And so, with question marks lingering over Jack Butland’s long-term viability as the number one due to his mistakes and inconsistent showings, Ibrox chiefs may just have made a note of Prior’s name.

His performance on Sunday certainly suggests he could push Butland for the starting job at the very least, and so that might just be something to watch this summer if Rangers feel a new goalkeeper is required.
