Kris Boyd flags ‘real issue’ for Danny Rohl that could cost Rangers title shot

Kris Boyd believes Rangers’ away-day blues could cost them dearly in their title battle with Hearts and Rangers.

Although Rangers scored twice in the final 10 minutes against Livingston to secure a much-needed point in a 2-2 draw, the gap between themselves and league leaders Hearts is now four points.

Given the fact that Livingston are rooted to the bottom of the table, it was a huge opportunity wasted, and Danny Rohl will need his side to bounce back quickly against Celtic next weekend.

The result at Almondvale Stadium marked the third consecutive game that the Ibrox outfit drew away from home, and Boyd believes that is a growing concern for Rohl.

Rangers’ away form is becoming a real concern

Despite having 31 shots against Marvin Bartley’s side, Rangers were unable to secure a win against the division’s bottom side.

Speaking to Sky Sports on 23 February, Boyd said he feels that alarm bells should be ringing over how the Bears have performed on their travels.

He said: “The away form is becoming a real issue for Rohl. Especially with the three away games they’ll have to play after the split.

“That’s three away games in a row that they’ve picked up three points, and that’s just not good enough.

“Livingston haven’t won since 9 August, and Rangers simply have to be going there and winning.”

These were two points that they couldn’t afford to let slip, and the fixture list doesn’t get any easier for the Bears.

Rangers have an incredibly tough schedule after the split

Given they will have played both Hearts and Celtic twice at home by the time the split comes around, that essentially guarantees away games at Tynecastle and Parkhead.

This means that they’ll have to visit one of Motherwell, Hibernian, or Falkirk, who currently occupy the top six, to balance out their home and away matches for the entire campaign.

This is a huge obstacle that they need to overcome, but as their away record in the league shows, the Bears haven’t experienced much joy on the road.

It could prove to be the defining factor between them winning their first league title since 2020-21 or falling short at the final hurdle.

Rohl has to address this concerning problem, and with the games getting harder as the season progresses, Rangers fans might not be optimistic about winning the league.
