‘It’s absolutely outrageous’ – Ally McCoist rages at Rangers controversy, he wants VAR scrapped

Ally McCoist wants to see VAR binned in the Scottish Premiership after it failed intervene when Mikey Moore was fouled against Livingston.

Rangers came from 2-0 down to secure a point away to Livingston on Sunday, but the focus was on the incident involving Moore in the dying minutes.

The Tottenham loanee was racing through on goal and ready to take on a strike before he was hacked down by the last defender, and somehow never even won the foul.

VAR checked the incident, and despite replays showing it was a clear foul, they failed to intervene on the basis that they deemed it was outside of the box, while also failing to take into account the fact that it was the denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity.

And that incident has left McCost incandescent with rage, and he wants to see VAR scrapped.

Ally McCoist calls out ‘inept’ VAR operators

VAR has been a constant theme of controversy in the Scottish Premiership this season, but it has never caused quite as much of a stir as it did against Livingston.

The foul on Moore was as clear as day, and that was before the replays were shown on Sky Sports, making it quite remarkable that the tackle was missed in real time.

It isn’t the first time Rangers have been done over by a shocking refereeing decision, and it certainly won’t be the last, and that has led to McCoist calling for the system to be scrapped entirely.

Via talkSPORT, he said: “The people on VAR, they’re just inept. They’re just not good. We need to get rid of it. We have to get rid of VAR because they’re embarrassing themselves.

“The decision at Livingston in the last minute, it’s absolutely outrageous. The referee is five yards away; it’s a penalty.”

Rangers may fall short in title race, and it’s not their own doing

At this stage, it’s hard to keep track of how many points Rangers have lost out on this season as a result of the incompetence on show from the officials.

Had Moore won the foul, there’s every chance that the Gers may have failed to take the opportunity to take the lead, but they were denied the chance to take the extra two points, which would have taken them within two points of Hearts.

That has been the case on several occasions already this season, and with the title race looking set to go down to the wire, it could prove costly.

Willie Collum already has a lot of work on his plate, and Sunday’s controversy will only add to that.
