Andreas Skov Olsen in ‘big worry’ at Rangers already after new developments

Andreas Skov Olsen’s form is a “big worry” for Rangers after their draw at Livingston.

That is according to Daily Record writer Keith Jackson, who feels that the January loan signing is yet to really get going at Rangers.

Indeed, in Rangers’ 2-2 draw away at lowly Livingston on Sunday, Skov Olsen was ineffective and was replaced for the second half by Bojan Miovski.

Since joining the Ibrox outfit last month, the 26-year-old has scored one goal and added an extra assist in six games in all competitions.

And after his outing at the Scottish Premiership’s basement side, Jackson has voiced his concerns about the Wolfsburg loanee.

Andreas Skov Olsen struggles against Livingston

According to Sofascore, Skov Olsen was accurate with all but one of his 13 passes, plus he created one big chance in Rangers’ draw.

However, he lost possession six times, made 21 touches, progressed the ball just over 15 metres, and completed zero dribbles.

It may not have been a coincidence that Rangers scored twice when he was off the pitch, although they did go 2-0 down in the 55th minute and had it not been for Cristian Montano’s red card on the hour mark, the Gers may have lost this one.

Jackson believes Skov Olsen was “miles” off it in the draw, while Rangers’ performance was a confusing one.

He said on Daily Record’s Hotline Live: “Rangers just lacked conviction. A big worry for Rangers supporters as well is that Skov Olsen got hooked again at halftime. Played on the fringes of the game.

“With good reason, people thought, this is the guy who could be a difference maker in exciting ways, but he’s not really got started. There will be a rustiness there because he hadn’t played a lot of football; whether he doesn’t like plastic pitches, I don’t know.

“He was miles off it, and then Rangers have to make changes at the interval.”

Jackson added that despite making four changes in the second half, Rangers looked devoid of ideas as Danny Rohl‘s substitutions struggled to make an impact.

Rangers’ concerning away form

Rangers and rivals Celtic both lost ground to leaders Hearts, who beat Falkirk on Saturday, in the title race on Sunday.

The Gers came from two goals down to rescue a point, whereas the 10-man Bhoys fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Hibernian.

Hearts now have a four-point cushion over Rangers, while Celtic are two points further back but do have a game in hand.

Although Rangers haven’t lost in the league since a 2-1 defeat at Hearts on 21 December, their recent away form may be something of a concern.

In the Livingston game, the red card changed the game when Rangers were 2-0 down. In the Motherwell draw, they threw away their lead and then conceded late on despite having an extra man on the pitch.

And away at Hibs, they were, arguably, fortunate to come away with a point at all. At home, though, they have been rock solid, scoring 11 goals in three games against Hearts, Kilmarnock, and Dundee.

With 10 games to go, five of them are away from Ibrox, and two of those are at Hearts and Celtic. That could be the difference between winning their first league title since 2021 or not.

The Old Firm is next, and three points are a necessity now.
