Willie Collum and SFA face major questions after Livingston vs Rangers ‘shocker’

Chris Sutton believes the decision not to award Rangers a late penalty for an apparent foul on Mikey Moore was a “shocker”.

Rangers dropped points in the Scottish Premiership title race on Sunday but came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at lowly Livingston.

Danny Rohl‘s team fell 2-0 down thanks to goals from Brooklyn Kabongolo and Lewis Smith in either half before Cristian Montano’s red card on the hour mark changed the course of the game.

Late goals from Emmanuel Fernandez and Moore set up a grandstand finish before the Tottenham loanee had a penalty appeal turned down in second-half stoppage time.

But despite the Ibrox outfit’s appeals over Cammy Kerr’s challenge, referee Ryan Lee didn’t point to the spot and VAR backed up his decision – much to Celtic hero’s Sutton disbelief.

Rangers fume as Mikey Moore’s penalty appeals waved away

Rangers were poor as basement side Livingston went two goals to the good with just over 30 minutes remaining.

Montano was correctly red carded for his last man challenge on Djeidi Gassama but Rangers will feel aggrieved they weren’t given a late penalty.

Livingston’s Kerr appeared to get the man and not the ball, as goalscorer Moore’s protestations came to nothing. And former Celtic man Sutton admitted the Gers didn’t get the rub of the green on this one.

He said on Sky Sports’ commentary, “I don’t think [Kerr] gets any of the ball there. He gets a touch of the ball with his left foot but he brings Mikey Moore down.

“I think it’s inside the box. I’ve got to say, I may be wrong, but I think that’s a shocker.”

Shortly after the incident, Rangers fans vented their frustration on social media, outraged they had not been awarded a spot-kick.

Questions may now be asked of head of referee operations at the Scottish Football Association, Willie Collum, as the title race took another twist on Sunday.

Danny Rohl fumes but confident of title success

Rohl admitted that his side dropped two points off the back of this Livingston draw and Hearts beating Falkirk on Saturday.

That result sent the league leaders four points clear at the top of the table, and next up, Rangers host Celtic; giving Hearts another chance to put distance between them and their rivals.

Moreover, Rohl said there was a big question mark over the Moore incident. He stressed that if it was a foul in the box, it should have been a penalty, and if it wasn’t, it should have been another red card.

Rohl added that his Rangers side are ready for the title race and they “totally believe” they can overhaul Hearts when the season draws to a close.

There are 10 games to go, and next up, Rangers host the next Old Firm derby next Sunday.
