Keith Hackett shares what should have happened after Cammy Kerr incident as new image emerges

Keith Hackett has shared his confusion over the late Cammy Kerr incident that happened in Rangers’ 2-2 draw at Livingston.

Kerr appeared to take down Mikey Moore in the closing stages of the contest as Rangers looked for a winner, having already recovered from two goals down.

VAR David Dickinson took a long time looking over the footage, before referee Ryan Lee ultimately played on.

It was adjudged that the contact was not inside the penalty area, and therefore the referee could not award a free-kick and dish out a red card for denial of a goalscoring opportunity.

Referee Ryan Lee gets decision badly wrong vs Rangers

Danny Rohl was not happy about the decision when speaking post-match, although he did accept his side should not have been relying on that decision.

While many were quick to point the finger at VAR, Dickinson’s hands were ultimately forced as referee Lee did not issue a red card on the field.

Sky Sports later shared a new freeze-frame image via X of the incident, as seen below.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, former FIFA referee Hackett was left bemused by the decision to not send off Kerr there and then, with VAR then able to check.

“This is a foul and it is difficult to understand why a red card has not been issued for the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity,” Hackett said.

“Moore was in possession of the ball and about to get a shot off when the foul took place. The covering player, in my opinion, would not be in a position to take defensive action.

“VAR would have instead been checking out the position of the foul to determine if it had taken place on the penalty area line. It’s really difficult to understand why a red card was not shown here.”

Livi had already been reduced to 10 men earlier in the game, when leading 2-0, as Cristian Montano was sent off for the division’s bottom side.

Where do Rangers stand after costly draw vs Livingston?

Rangers have now gone three away games without a win, and that is what will cost them the title if they fail to catch Hearts.

After all the positive work of last weekend, this was a massive step backwards for Rohl and his players at Almondvale Stadium.

The only silver lining is that Celtic suffered a surprise home loss to Hibernian, meaning Hearts were very much the big winners this weekend as they beat Falkirk 1-0 on Saturday.

Hearts are now four points clear of Rangers at the summit, while Celtic are six points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

Not that supporters of either side need reminding, but next weekend is the latest instalment of the Old Firm at Ibrox.

Fail to win that and it really will be game over for the Gers.
