John Souttar dreadful, Tuur Rommens escapes with credit – Rangers player ratings vs Livingston

Rangers came from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw away to Livingston.

The Light Blues found themselves 1-0 down within 14 minutes, after Brooklyn Kabongolo fired home after John Souttar gave away a needless free kick completely against the run of play.

Rangers continued their domination, forcing Jerome Prior into a series of impressive saves, but it was the hosts who doubled their advantage after 56 minutes through Lewis Smith.

The Gers were handed a lifeline for the final half-hour when Cristian Montano received a straight red card for a foul on Djeidi Gassama, though James Tavernier couldn’t make anything of the resulting free kick.

Emmanuel Fernandez struck in the final nine minutes of the game to give the Gers some hope, with Mikey Moore heading home minutes later to draw Rangers level.

The Gers pushed for a winner, but they will take heart from a point given that they were 2-0 down.

Tuur Rommens and Mikey Moore show quality for Rangers

Not only did Turr Rommens almost get on the score sheet had it not been a superb save from Prior, but the Belgian’s all-round display was a promising one.

The 22-year-old attempted 11 crosses, created four chances and hit the target with his only effort in the game.

Rommens was more than worth his praise for his defensive work, having won 10 of his 14 duels, including four in the air, with a total of eight defensive contributions.

Moore was the ultimate difference-maker for the Light Blues, having scored the equalising goal and looking a threat throughout with four chances created.

Adding Fernandez to the list, they were the three players who emerged from the game with more credit than they started it with.

John Souttar flaws exposed by Livingston

Souttar agreed terms on a new deal this week at Ibrox, and his performance against Livingston would have you believing that he has been out celebrating it the entire time.

The Scotsman gave away the foul for the free kick that led to the first goal, and just looked a yard off the pace throughout.

He is usually the most reliable man on the pitch in the air, and yet he won just four of his seven aerial duels, while also winning just 40 per cent of those on the ground.

It certainly wasn’t a standard Souttar performance, but it was a concerning one, given just how poor he looked before he was hooked.
