Danny Rohl suffers backroom staff blow as Steve Walker set for switch after 23-year Rangers stay
Steve Walker is set to end his 23-year stay at Rangers, with a move to fellow Scottish Premiership side, Hearts, now set.
That’s according to The Scottish Sun, which reported on Thursday that the physio will join the Jambos, but only once the season is finished.
He will now serve out a period of gardening leave for the Bears before the move is made official.
Walker has been previously praised for his work with the likes of Jordan Rossiter and Craig Gordon, who he will link up with at Tynecastle.
Though he was at Auchenhowie before Danny Rohl, the German head coach may find it hard to replace such a key part of the success seen at Ibrox over the last 23 years.
Thankfully, the Bears will have their best chance of preventing injury issues from now until the end of the campaign with Walker still at the club.

What injuries has Steve Walker helped with season?
Rangers still have a crucial job of getting over the line in the race for the title, and Rohl will know that he must keep all his players fit for the run-in.
The Bears have been dealt their fair share of injury problems this season, though, and several players are still trying to make their way back, with Walker helping with rehabilitation behind the scenes.
Rangers’ injuries this season:
- Dujon Sterling
- Connor Barron
- Derek Cornelius
- Bailey Rice
- Oliver Antman
- Rabbie Matondo
- Nedim Bajrami
Above are some of Gers’ biggest injury misses this campaign, with several of whom Walker has worked wonders on.
The likes of Rabbie Matondo and Dujon Sterling have suffered major setbacks and have both seemingly returned to fitness with the help of Rangers’ long-serving physio.
Rohl still needs some players back, and he’ll be counting on Walker to be at the top of his game at Auchenhowie for the next few months, which, no doubt, he will be.
When are Derek Cornelius and Connor Barron due back?
Perhaps the two stars that the Bears miss the most are Derek Cornelius and Connor Barron. The pair have been out for a while, but they both have a timeline for a return before the end of the season.
Cornelius’ muscle injury that was picked up in November could see him stay sidelined until the end of February, where he is the expected to return to Rohl’s squad.
Barron, on the other hand, is in a race against time, with his date for a return set for early April after being dealt a knee issue back in January.
However, with the way things are going, it may be hard for the duo to get back into Rohl’s starting eleven, especially Barron, which is cruel considering his form before injury.
But that’s football, as Walker will do what he can to help the Bears to one last trophy before his summer departure.
