Rangers position in global power rankings will cause a stir, they’re above top European clubs
Rangers will no doubt be causing a stir in Opta’s Global Power Rankings after the latest updates.
The system, which names Arsenal as the current best team in the world, assigns an ability score to over 10,000 men’s domestic football teams.
Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Liverpool follow closely behind the Gunners, with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid all also in the top 10.
Danny Rohl’s men, who are currently in their own fierce battle at the top of the Scottish Premiership, are slightly further down, and Gers fans will be furious with some of the teams that are above them.

Where do Rangers sit in global power rankings?
Opta have concluded that Rangers are currently the 141st best team in the world, with an overall rating of 79.9.
Rohl’s side have climbed seven places in the last week, following their 4-2 win over Hearts at Ibrox, in which Youssef Chermiti grabbed a hat-trick.
Annoyingly for Rangers supporters, their arch-rivals Celtic are currently 10 places higher, sitting 131st with a rating of 80.2.
The likes of Derby County, Sheffield United and Wrexham are also above the Gers, which is questionable to say the least.
However, they are at least ahead of Sevilla and Nice, both well-respected European clubs.
As for the current Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts, they are down in 255th place, over 100 places lower than Rangers and Celtic.
Derek McInnes’ side dropped 15 places after their defeat to Rohl’s side last Sunday.

Rangers can prove Opta rankings wrong with title win
Despite being below Glasgow rivals Celtic in the Opta rankings, the Gers are still well-placed to beat them and Hearts to the Scottish Premiership title.
Over the next few weeks, Martin O’Neill’s side have a tough run of fixtures, taking on the likes of Hibernian, Aberdeen and Motherwell.
Celtic also have two trips to Ibrox coming up, one in the league at the start of March, and one in the Scottish Cup just seven days later.
As for Rangers, they have an easier fixture list, playing five of the bottom six, as well as facing the Hoops in the Old Firm at Ibrox.
| Date | Opponent | League position |
| 22 Feb | Livingston (A) | 12th |
| 1 Mar | Celtic (H) | 3rd |
| 15 Mar | St Mirren (A) | 10th |
| 21 Mar | Aberdeen (H) | 8th |
| 4 Apr | Dundee United (H) | 7th |
Rohl will hope that his side can pull clear of Celtic during this period and leapfrog Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
With that, will come bragging rights in the global power rankings, too.
