Dan Purdy not done with Rangers scouting mission in Cameron Congreve update
Rangers will be monitoring Dundee playmaker Cameron Congreve ahead of the summer transfer window.
Dan Purdy was present at Dens Park to watch Steven Pressley’s team against Livingston on 14 February to watch Luke Graham, but he may not have been the only player on the agenda, according to the Daily Record.
The news outlet reports on 19 February that the Gers’ technical director, or other members of his staff, are expected to attend more SPFL fixtures to scout players for Danny Rohl before the end of the season.
With seven assists and one goal for the Dark Blues in 23 William Hill Premiership appearances this season, it isn’t surprising to see the 22-year-old, on loan from Swansea City, be on the Glaswegian outfit’s radar.
Cameron Congreve season by numbers amid Rangers interest
It looks like Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises want to change the perception around the Gers ignoring talented players in Scotland.
The Light Blues have been accused of preferring signings from down south or other European countries over those who’ve proven themselves in the William Hill Premiership.
Congreve made his way through the youth ranks at Swansea but has spent most of his senior career away from the Swansea.com Stadium.
The winger’s displays at Dundee will surely catch a lot of people’s attention, creating nine big chances and completing 78 per cent of his passes in the league this season, as per Sofascore.
| Appearances | 23 |
| Starts | 20 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 7 |
| Shots on target per game | 0.7 |
| Tackles per game | 1 |
It’s clear that the forward can be more clinical, missing three big chances, with his successful dribbling rate of 37 per cent also a bit underwhelming.
Congreve has been in the team of the week three times this season, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Wales Under-21 international.
Danny Rohl should make William Hill Premiership forward top priority for summer at Ibrox
While Youssef Chermiti has shown he has the quality to make it at the Gers, it’s the Portuguese striker’s lack of consistency that has been a worry for fans in Govan.
Bojan Miovski has also struggled since returning to Scotland from Girona, and the jury is still out on Ryan Naderi after his winter deadline-day move from Hansa Rostock.
Motherwell forward Tawanada Maswanhise should be a priority for Rohl in the summer, with the 23-year-old Zimbabwe international scoring 13 league goals this season.
The German manager has made incredible progress since replacing Russell Martin, and it’s now up to the Ibrox hierarchy to get recruitment right.
