Rangers will lose 23-game history if Danny Rohl’s side slip on Livingston banana skin

Danny Rohl will take his Rangers side to the Scottish Premiership’s bottom-ranked team Livingston on Sunday.

Rangers will be feeling good about themselves heading into Sunday’s game too, with Rohl‘s men defeating Hearts in a 4-2 thriller at Ibrox last Sunday night.

It was a result that moves Gers to within two points of Derek McInnes’ team at the top of the Premiership table, with just 11 games of the season left to play.

However, a totally different sort of test awaits them this weekend, as they take on a seemingly doomed Livingston team who have just one league win to their name this term.

Rangers have 23-game Livingston record to protect on Sunday

At this stage of the season, Rohl and Rangers can’t and won’t be taking any fixture for granted.

Every three points won or dropped could make all the difference when it comes to who is lifting the Premiership title when it’s all said and done, and so every remaining game is precious.

It’s with that backdrop that Rangers travel to Livingston this Sunday, with the Lions having not won a game in any competition since 9 August 2025.

That highlights the size of the mountain they must climb if they are to pull off one of the Premiership’s biggest shock results of the season on Sunday, but scale it they will try.

And if they do so, it would be the first time since 30 September 2018 that Livingston would’ve beaten Rangers, a length of time which spans 23 games.

The West Lothian outfit ran out 1-0 winners in the Premiership that day, with Dolly Menga scoring the winning goal for them.

In fact, that was their second-straight victory over Gers at the time, having also beaten them 1-0 in April 2016 when this fixture was contested in the Championship, and now-Hearts defender Craig Halkett scored the winning goal that day.

Since Livingston’s last win over Rangers, however, Gers have won 21 times and drawn twice, with the last time the result ended in anything other than a Livingston loss being on 22 October 2022, with a 1-1 draw.

Livingston’s home record isn’t as bad as you might think

Almondvale Stadium, also known as The Home of the Set Fare Arena for sponsorship purposes, has been the scene of Livingston’s only Premiership win this season.

That came against Falkirk in a 3-1 win on 9 August last year, and in fairness to Marvin Bartley’s side, their record on home soil maybe isn’t as bad as many might think it to be.

The Lions have won once, drawn four and lost eight from their 13 home games this term, and have a goal difference of only minus nine, scoring 16 goals and conceding 25.

Compare that to their away tally of 12 goals scored and 31 conceded, and you can see how they may just feel they’ve got a chance of causing a major upset on Sunday if Rangers don’t respect them.
