Danny Rohl mistake ‘makes no sense’ as Rangers rue missed Scottish Premiership opportunity

Rangers supporters will be hoping that they don’t look back at individual moments as a reason for potentially missing out on the Scottish Premiership title at the end of the season.

The Bears made a statement with their 4-2 win over Hearts on Sunday, as Ibrox could really see Danny Rohl‘s side stage one of the best comebacks in Scottish football history.

The victory has put Gers up to second in the table, just two points behind the Jambos in top spot, but Celtic are also closing in.

It may go down to the final day, and if so, Rangers could rue the points they dropped in the devastating 1-1 draw to Motherwell.

Keith Jackson blasts Danny Rohl for resting ‘upgrades’ vs Motherwell

There’s no doubt about it, Rangers may have had a season-defining winter transfer window, with their new additions already settling into life in Glasgow quickly.

Despite such a controversial summer window, it seems like the players brought in over the past couple of weeks have all made an impact and hit the ground running.

However, Rohl has chosen rest the signings tactically in different games, which may have been the reason for the disappointing result against Motherwell at Fir Park.

While speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live this Monday, Keith Jackson explained how he can’t understand why Rohl rested some of his additions against the Steelmen.

Jackson said: “He’s brought in key upgrades, and the first real view that Rangers get of them is when they all came off the bench against Kilmarnock. They look great, they start and score a bunch of goals, then play in the cup and score a load more goals, and again versus Hearts.

“It still makes no sense, and I can’t work out what was going through the manager’s head when they went to Fir Park and left out most of his upgrades.”

Jackson’s got a point, because Jens Berthel Askou’s side were never going to be an easy pushover, and it could be two points dropped that come back to bite the Bears.

Why Rohl doesn’t have major fitness worry now

Rangers are entering a crunch period in their quest for the Scottish Premiership. Not many league matches remain, with an Old Firm Scottish Cup clash against the Hoops in between.

But thankfully for the Gers, there seems to be plenty of days between matches, giving Rohl a healthy chance to rest most of his key players.

Rangers still have some top players out with the likes of Derek Cornelius, Max Aarons and Connor Barron all pushing for returns, though, the latter’s comeback may be wishful thinking.

Either way, Rohl is going to have plenty of chances to rest his squad and head into pivotal games with fully rested “upgrades” available.
