Simon Jordan shares what Josh Windass told him about Danny Rohl and Rangers

Danny Rohl is rightly receiving his plaudits for the job he has done at Rangers.

Rohl has been fantastic since he arrived in Govan on 20 October, and the 4-2 win over Hearts on Sunday has him firmly in the title race.

The Bears are now two points off the league leaders, and they have momentum on their side going into the final months of the Scottish Premiership season.

There were doubts over Rohl’s appointment, with many fans claiming that he didn’t have the necessary experience to take charge of a squad that was wounded under Russell Martin.

However, Simon Jordan revealed that after speaking to former Ibrox attacker Josh Windass before his appointment, he knew that the German head coach would be a success.

Josh Windass was full of praise for Danny Rohl

Windass worked with Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday and scored a total of 20 goals across his two-year spell with the Owls.

The 31-year-old, who spent two years in Govan between 2016 and 2018, joined Wrexham on a free transfer in the summer, and he had some very positive words to say about his former manager.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 16 February, Jordan said: “I spoke to Windass about him, and he was full of compliments.

“The only thing Rohl needs to say is that Rangers are top of the league since he’s been brought in. This is as good as it gets for Rangers at the moment.

“That’s what he’s brought in to do, and obviously it makes a mockery of what happened under Martin.”

Four months ago, it seemed unfathomable that the Light Blues could be in the title race, especially after the poor start to the campaign.

Rohl’s success highlights just how bad Russell Martin was at Rangers

Martin was hounded out by Rangers fans, who were furious with his performance in both domestic and European competitions at Ibrox.

Rangers’ elimination from the Champions League to Club Brugge in August was disastrous, and it marked the moment that the majority of fans started to turn on Martin.

After the 1-1 draw with Falkirk on 5 October, Martin had to be escorted out of the stadium by police, and he was sacked shortly afterwards, meaning his 123-day reign became the shortest in the club’s history.

Martin’s Rangers record

Although Rohl made some signings in the winter transfer window, the majority of the squad was built by the former Southampton manager.

Every time Rangers secure a big result this season, it reflects so poorly on the job Martin did in G51.

But more importantly, it shows how well Rohl has managed his players, and if they do win the title in May, then the likes of Windass and Jordan will be vindicated for their backing of Rohl’s appointment in October.
