Ally McCoist raves about ‘exceptional’ Tuur Rommens after latest Rangers scenes vs Hearts
Tuur Rommens was excellent during Rangers’ 4-2 win over Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday.
Rommens joined the Bears from Belgian side Westerlo for £2.6m, with another £500,000 due in performance-related add-ons.
Although the left-back had to wait a couple of weeks before featuring for Rangers, he certainly made a positive impression on the Ibrox faithful.
After showing bright signs against Kilmarnock, the 22-year-old had to wait until Sunday to get his first league start.
Youssef Chermiti will deservedly get all of the plaudits for his three goals, but Ally McCoist believes that Rommens deserves an immense amount of credit for how he’s settled in so far.

Tuur Rommens excels in Rangers vs Hearts
As seen by the Sofascore graphic above, Rommens was a threat in both boxes, and it’s no shock that Danny Rohl is starting to trust him more.
Against Hearts, he had a pass accuracy of 85 per cent, created two chances and had three touches in the opposition box.
However, he also completed 100 per cent of his aerial duels, 67 per cent of his ground duels and made six clearances.
This showcases his versatility, and the Light Blues definitely have a talented player on their hands.
| Stat | Rommens |
| Appearances | 2 |
| Minutes played | 115 |
| Pass accuracy | 86.4% |

Speaking live on talkSPORT on 16 February, McCoist believes that the Belgian left-back has exceeded expectations and has been Rohl’s best winter signing.
He said: “I thought Ryan Naderi looked to be the part. The signings have been very good. Tochi Chukwuani in the middle of the park has been impressive.
“But for me, the star of the show is Rommens. The left-back has come in and been exceptional.”
While all Rangers fans will be delighted by his impact, Jayden Meghoma will be looking on worried.
Rommens’ performances will leave Jayden Meghoma worried
Having joined on a season-long loan deal from Brentford, the 19-year-old has provided six assists in 37 games this season.
He has been one of the better summer arrivals signed under Russell Martin, and was the only natural left-back in the squad for the first half of the season.
However, Rommens’ arrival has thrown Meghoma’s place in the starting lineup into serious doubt.
While it’s unfortunate for Meghoma, Rohl clearly values the Belgian’s defensive discipline, and after Sunday’s display, the English left-back has definitely dropped down the pecking order.
It’s up to him to prove that he can compete with Rommens, although that will undoubtedly be a significant challenge.
